OnYA Gomez!, the first t break news of the new RX-8, and yes it is just more than colors and it is not the next gen 8, there is no guarantee there ever will be.

The new Mazda 6 is the Next Generation of "Zoom" Design.

From Autoweek..
"RX-8 for '09
While the Furai concept will likely steal all the spotlight on the Mazda stand in Detroit, the 2009 RX-8 will also be revealed.

Mazda is downplaying changes to the new sports car, saying only that it will sport "a freshened design, improved handling, acceleration, quality and features," which could mean anything."

I doubt any wind tunnel testing was done but this could be a nice preview for the new coupe regulations for LMS and ALMS. Fantastic picture though!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought it was pretty well known that a facelifted RX-8 is coming in the next 2-3 years and then the next gen RX-8 would come a year or two after that. The next gen is supposedly going to have the 1.6L rotary with direct injection. Is any of this really news? Weren't we already expecting a prototype of the facelift during this show season?

Renesis_8 12-12-2007 12:38 PM

I want them to fire up the 3-rotor at NAIAS, INDOOR, and rev to 10k. Then I am going there FOR SURE. Everyones gonna get their checkbooks out if they do that.. haha...

This is quite exciting, since when did mazda display ANY 3-rotor powered concept/car at an Autoshow? Eunos Cosmo in Tokyo?

On top of that, I am guessing the BK Lola, Mazda MX5-cup cars, and perhaps Speedsource RX-8s *could* be at the show. Since they said they're gonna bring a few race cars. Mazdas bringing out all their race stuff, a raceing exhibition full of zoom zoom.

They'll also have all the engine cutaways at Tokyo + the Taiki.

I don't know. Based on that article, it seems Mazda may have some tricks up their sleeve for the Detroit Auto Show.... I hope so. Mazda is claiming the 09 with have better acceleration, handling and new look.

Sweet Lord YES!! I hope so cause by then my 3 will be paid off. Damnit I wish I knew what was actually going to happen at Mazda between 2009-11:confused: , helps my rotary decisions:yumyum: :evil_laug

Article says "heavily revised". That statement is likely heavily inflated. Probably more of the same sprinkle we've been seeing. And the improved acceleration, I'd faint if it's on the MT.

SideOfBacon 12-12-2007 01:12 PM

16x ftw!

apc_monk 12-12-2007 01:12 PM

Interestingly they kept Bach and Devlin's name on the side.

RE: breaking the embargo... looks like it's probably 2 weeks for ride impressions:

"Stay tuned--in two weeks we'll give you an impression of what it felt like to ride in the Furai full-tilt around Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. No, they wouldn't let us drive it."

Is anyone else getting sick of this "nagare" shit and wishing Mazda would just build a damn car already?

Exactly what I was thinking

XRX8X 12-12-2007 01:15 PM

i don't think that the 8 needs better handling they need to address the power level issues and m.p.g.a bit.with all the techno and brians of japan it can be done.
imo

eh.. i'd be willing to sacrifice/keep the current EMPG to have more power.

Ghadrack 12-12-2007 01:23 PM

I absolutely cannot wait to see a full photo spread of the Furai and see video of it in action.

Renesis07 12-12-2007 01:34 PM

god if they could get about 250whp and stay around 3000lbs from the factory, I would do just about anything to have it! Probably be upwards of 40k at that point

eh... $10k.. no biggie, just splitting hairs at that point :P

TheAbsence 12-12-2007 01:46 PM

In for single turbo 3 rotor

Josche 12-12-2007 02:03 PM

The press release says more power, better handling for the 2009 RX-8, right? Any speculation on how they're going to achieve that?
