I took mine in for the recall (plus oil change and tire rotation) today. Mine was fine, so they did the flash and a couple other things. I was told that, so far, they've only had to change automatics, not manuals. I haven't driven my car long enough since the work this afternoon to know if there's any discernible difference in peformance or gas mileage.

I have yet to notice performance improvements, but the soot on the tail pipes has definately improved. I also haven't driven enough miles to notice the oil consumption difference.

Engine Replacement Gallery

I posted a bunch of pictures I took of my RX-8 taken apart for the engine replacement. I used Two different cameras so there is some duplication.

they dropped the engine, transmission and front crossmember and suspension as all one unit from the bottom.

I do not know if they replaced the motor mounts.
I do know that some suspension noise that was there is no longer there.

they went through the car and got rid of a bunch of rattles and little things. Kind of gave the car a once over. It is like a brand new car now.

Very interesting ... they allowed you to step into the workshop to take photos?

Yes. They even called me to tell me when they got the engine and when they got the engine out of the car so I could come take the pictures.

It is the best auto service department I have ever worked with.

as patrick said.. i have a bunch of photos also.. just have not learned how to host them... most of mine are photos of where the injectors are, and dirty valves...

i spent 8 hours at the dealership watching them do the work and taking photos..

the dealership would have a record. Provide VIN and they could pull up the maintenance record.

A person shouldn't have any problem with an intake.

I know we shouldn't but I can see a dealer being a stickler about it. Just wondering if anyone brought one in and the dealer said they would not perform the recall. I'm considering reinstalling my stock intake before bringing it in.

That's the best way to go if you have it.

They can't refuse to do it, but that won't stop a crappy dealership from trying.

I took mine in and got it back the next day, I have the AEM CAI, so you shoudn't have a problem taking it in. I got 2 spark plugs changed, and a new catalytic convertor. I see your from Cocoa Beach, im from Orlando, and I took it to Classic Mazda up on the corner of Semoran and Colonial.
Hope that helps

I just took mine in and I have the Revi + ram air and the agency pulleys and the dealer said that there was no problem having those installed. The regional rep was there also and said that they were ok.

yes, I did from the lynnwood WA dealership. They would not work on my car until I "returned it to stock"

so I went to university mazda and they said no problem. They also said modifications do not void the warranty and even if I was to put a blower on the car unless it could be proven the blower broke the motor, the warranty is still in effect.

Problem though is they used to be great. I am not sure what happened. I think they got a new service manager and a new rotary tech. I know the service writers all changed and that was the first step downhill.
