I'm pretty sure the tests I saw at the crank never cleared 200. I could be wrong though. Don't get me wrong, I like the amount of power the 8 has, but I just don't like the idea of Mazda falsely advertising performence. They started out claiming 250 or so, and now we're down to 232..

They targeted 250hp.
They claimed 248hp.
They revised to 238hp.
They retested with new emissions testing standards to 232hp. (BTW- All manufacturers either gained, or lost hp)

An independent tester received more than 200hp (engine dyno) and less than 232hp. Up to you to find what the number was.

Okay am I carzy? I just had the latest flash done and I swear my car is faster. The tires spin much easier. Of course this is using my butt dyno but I will confirm it at the track this week.

It probably has to do with the rental car you had in the meantime. Trading your rental PT cruiser back in for your 8 will probably make you feel like you own a rocket

Well, they just called and told me Mazda wants to replace my engine. I asked for test results and got "once we send them to Mazda we can't get them back". I guess I can go pick my car up until they get the engine in.

no recall letter yet for me in boston, only the warranty letter.

i didn't want to read thru all those pages for this answer but is there a car-buy back program for this recall? do you have to fail the vacuum test for it to take effect? i want a new car, maybe the cx7.

I heard about somebody getting their 8 back without it having been washed/filled up. Anyone else experience this? From what my dealer told me, they get the money from Mazda for that stuff regardless of the outcome of their testing.

Really, I didn't know that, both times I had my engine replaced I was given the car back with the tank on E but the car was washed.

Got my recall and warranty letter on monday. Took it right in. Still no call. Scared. Don't really want to go through the whole "new engine" thing.

Ok, went into the dealer, told them I knew about the recall (no letter), the tech comes in and we start talking like two rotorheads and he says, "you want a new engine man?", to which I replied, "not unless something is wrong with mine". so he ordered a new cat for me and new plugs even though I had just had them change the spark plugs a week ago, told me they would call when the parts were there, oh and he goes, "I noticed your brakes squealed on the way in so i'll throw in some rotors and pads for you, even though he couldn't have heard me pull up. awesome guy, seemed knowledgable about the car, we talked about the 5w20 issue and he said quote,
"I don't care what anyone says, do not put synthetic or a heavier oil in the car no matter what" he even said he made a owner pay for some engine work because the guy used synthetic. I had been going to two other dealers and never felt good about them, but fate (flooded engine) sent me to this dealer and they rock.

Well this applies to this recall only as far as I know. That's prolly why you didn't get any free gasoline (though it would have been a nice touch).

Please no oil debates. There are roughly 1.2 million threads already created about it.

zenmoused- No performance issues, she ran like a bull, but I did have idle issues where the car would drop below 700rpm at times. Once it almost died repeatedly. I had to keep revs up to keep it alive. Also, I do not know how the previous owner drove, broke it in, etc.
