"Mazda expects to recall RX-8s"
#1301
I bought one!!
Despite my reservations, I bought a silver 2006 GT. I love it!! I had no idea that salesmen really push to make their sales on the last day of the month if they haven't met their quota. I hope I got a good deal, but I can't help that perhaps they would have gone lower. Prior to the recall, they were going to sell it me for $500 under the alleged invoice. MSRP is $31,505 and their invoice was just under $29,000. I ended up getting it for $27,500 and then there was the 2,000 rebate on top of that, so I think I did okay. I wanted to buy it, but I decided to lease it just in case there were problems with it down the line.
The dealership didn't want to do the recall stating that my VIN was not affected, but I whipped out my paperwork (thanks to you guys) and showed them that it did indeed fall under the recall. They changed the spark plugs, did a reflash and the vaccuum test. They said my numbers looked good and I got a printout of it. They said it would probably need to be reflashed again.
So....I think I did well with getting it at $25,500, but I bet better deals will be had with the 2007's approaching.

got my notice today, can't wait to let the fun begin. car has bever really been "right" since i got it back from my wreck, if it wasn't for the first year color I probably would have bailed on it by now, but the newer Rx8's and the newer beemers don't come in anything I like yet, perhaps I'll get something good out of this recall though and be able to enjoy my car again (I have faith, I'm not ready to call it done just yet, I love this car)

was on the mazda website owner section. and it says mine is being recalled 04... 6 speed.... i don't drive it hard at all.. drive 7 miles to work. warm it up each way.. don't drive hard at all.. only hit 9 like twice. drove it to denver last summer in the heat. have had no problems except sitting idling it seems to go really low and then really high idle.. just hit 19k miles... only problems i've noticed now is the fogging lights.. and when ever the the blower is on it smells like something is burning. if i turn the ac on it goes away... mm anyone have that problem.. i'm not very technical here. lol.... so if this all sounds like a 14 year old wrote it.. that's why.

ya that is what i have been reading.. i've been babying mine... like i said i've only hit 9 two times since i have had the car usually between 3 and 4... i guess i'm asking for problems by not running it harder...

You don't want carbon build up, and it seems the rotary lasts longer when it's revved higher.

I love my 8 (at least now that it's turbo'ed), but '07 will be the last year they make 'em, methinks.

Mazda needs to step up to the plate and give its "valued" owners a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine.
If not, this will be my last Mazda.
I love the car, but this is bullshit.

This is the bullsh-t that I can't deal with. The customer shouldn't have to "correct" the dealership on a technical issue. Whether it is incompetence or maliciousness we shouldn't have to put up with it.

yessir, they mentioned drivetrain and powertrain has been extended. I had an extended warranty already, so I'll have to see exactly what all this means, maybe they can give me a break on non-warranty stuff or something

This is a MAZDA dealership we're talking about here. Not Mercedes Benz, BMW or Jaguar.

In family_man's case, that was pretty obvious, but we're talking about a situation when the problem happens 6 months or a year later.

A scary thing I didn't mention is the following quote from the service rep:
"It is just a really good thing we had not closed your paperwork."
I hope he only meant from a paperwork perspective. This dealership is on the 4th or 5th service manager, I've always had good service and great feedback, but its a new face every time.
The only news I have on my car is that the "new" engine is on its way. Probably will not get the car back until mid September.
I did notice when the tech first pulled up the car, that it seemed to idle high. We left the car running for 5 minutes or so while I was finishing the paperwork and transferring my stuff over. It wasn't untill I actually started to pull away from the lot that it died. And died and so on . . .
I can only presume that the vacuum test needed to be more thorough. I seriously doubt anything I did for that first mile changed anything.

I just got my letters today and I have some questions.
Now that it looks like my warranties has been bumped out to 5 years or 60,000 miles. I had my clutch replaced after having the car for 1 year 1 month and it was just out of the warranty, but now it says I could get re-reimbursed for previous work. So would this be covered by that?
Also it says it covers transmission stuff, and I wonder if I could get my transmission fixed for free. Because it is hard to shift into 5th at higher rmp's and it’s harder to down shift into first at about 20 mph.
And if I go there to have this work done should I put back on all my stock parts (I have an intake, high flow cat, and cat back exhaust on the car right now) because I don’t want them to say that those parts void my warranty.
Also with Racing Beats new flash that they came out with, are people going to have problems with them? Because the new flash adds more oil to the motor to keep in more lubed up, but will the RB be adequate???

the letter has a list of parts covered. the only things clutch-like I saw were flywheel and clutch pressure plate. your invoice from your repair should have a list of the parts they replaced when they replaced your clutch.
#1324
Well it wasn't the parts that cost a lot, it was the labor. So if they were to have just replaced the pressure plate they would still have had to remove the transmission and that’s what cost a pretty penny.
#1325
The only reason why I started to mod out my car now with parts that aren’t Mazdaspeed was because I figured why keep it stock if I don't have a warrant left... But now I do have a warranty again.
