slap the lazy eyed technician who gawked at you...

I would bring them in with you and make sure that tech gets the first copy... Then just smile .. LOL

Still can't wait to get this letter in the mail. Hell can't wait to goto my service dept and smirk. I've only experinced something akin to loss of power once and at times I encounter a "hard start" so this recall should be interesting for my car. Otherside I have the pdf's printed up think I should hand it to them or leave them be? I know Zoom's answer already hehe..

^^ i have had the car for a few months, and this has happened to me about 3-4 times... after stopping at a light and being in idle, the RPM would go down to 500 or so and the engine would rumble for like 2-3 seconds, then go back up to the normal 750-900 range in idle... i think not think of it too much.. wonder if its a problem... its been hot here, but overall, my car runs with absolutely no problem.. AC is ice cold, acceleration is good, and although i have not done a lot of freeway cruising, i have made some hour+ trips in 100+ weather and it ran great.

Mine has done the same, maybe twice since purchased 1.5 years ago. It's an 04 with a mid year 04 build date. Came with M flash and has since had R and now S. I took it to be just a temporary glitch in the MAF reading in combination with a alternator/A/C load change on the engine. I don't recall temps, but likely was warm outside-Joplin, MO at the time.

Im reading through all this blah blah blah, but when will we be able to get our cars checked out? Do the recall sheets have to be mailed, and then we make appointments? or can we call the dealership and just come by?, this is my first new car ... curious about how this is going to work, I thought I read this all happening Aug. 28?

I'm just curious, what speeds are we considering cruise to be? I have done alot of Interstate cruising-even prior to premixing and royal purple 5-30 usage. Interstates get me into the 4K range in 6th (70-85mph), which doesn't seem like light cruising to me+the air at that speed would make the oil coolers and the radiator fairly effective. Just curious. I have done my share of highway 50-60mph but mostly since I've premixed and used RP 5-30. I'm just curious. Seems open to interpretation at the moment.

Nemesis, I have had same problems occur 4 times in the last month, I took it in and had no codes thrown but my coils were cripsy critters, swapped them out about two weeks ago and then I stalled today at a red light...kinda strange, the tach went down to 500rpm then suddenly climbed to 1200rpm and shut off. Started back up fine. I want to take it in but I have a trip to the mountains coming up.

according to the repair testing procedure, the 'light cruising' condition is:

- 45mph and below
- keeping very light throttle and shift below 3000rpm

hardly what i ever do on a daily basis

but i do have the occasional low idle issue, where it'll drop to 500rpm, and then quickly go back to 700, guess i'll have to get it checked out when the 'official' letter shows up in the mail

Same here. I ran through the procedure yesterday to see how mine would do. Twice I busted 3000 rpm and had to start over even though I was being careful. Shifting below 3000 rpm is definitely unnatural! I have no idea how anyone could do that habitually.

My miata used to do the idle dance, but you can't really compare the 2. But, FWIW, the cause on my miata was two-fold. The damper that "catches" the cam/throttle linkage from slamming closed when letting off the gas was completely shot. This caused a snap shut situation that caused the old flapper door style MAF to reverb and give incorrect readings. They were spring loaded so they wore (got looser) over time. Once I got the damper fixed and made the spring 1 notch tighter-all was well.

Cool! That means I could mod the thing and install a switch so I can "fog" tailgaters!!

After being on my 3rd engine I thought that a loose MAF was the reasoning behind my irratic idle, but after tightening it the car seems to still have the same issue. It will actually idle at 1500k and stay there for a few minutes, then drop back down to 750k then up again to 1500k bouncing up and down until I turn the car off and start it again a while later.

I know you have all posted with similar issues, but can anyone say for sure what issue I am encountering?

Oh and next time this happens I am going to take video with my phone so I don't hear any **** about how it's not happening when I get to the dealer.

I took video of the white smoke proving coolant was in the 2nd reman, when the dealer tried telling me there was no problem. Should have seen the face on the service mang. and the corporate rep when I took that out of my sleeve and showed them!

Maybe if you put in enough you could have not all of it burn away and leave an oil slick behind you James Bond style.

I can think of one occassion where my engine started idling like that...I just started driving it and it went away and has never come back since. Otherwise I would have tried cleaning the MAF...this was all more than 20K miles ago.

talked to the dealer about them keeping my car to have the recall done on it. They said they won't have all the materials till early September. Which is not long away but still, I thought they would have everything in order by now since the letters are going out in just a few days.
