Looks like at least one of the folks at Valve is in love with rotaries too!

RX8_Buckeye 12-30-2004 12:02 AM

Wow that's awesome! Nice find.

truemagellen 12-30-2004 12:36 AM

I think this is a joke :p

PoLaK 12-30-2004 01:24 AM

No its really there. Pretty nice graphic the guy made too wonder if he's on rx7club or this one, those look like non-renesis rotors just a guess tho.

Rez 12-30-2004 02:50 AM

What level did you find that on?

RX Renesis 12-30-2004 03:22 AM

lol sh!t!! where'd u find that in HL2?

Luftwaffle 12-30-2004 07:51 AM

I can't believe I missed that. I'll have to go back and turn up my graphics settings to look for it. :D

09Factor 12-30-2004 08:16 AM

Looks like I have to get HL2 now. Thanks a lot...

w0rm 12-30-2004 08:24 AM

looks more like a custom spray- odd that it overlaps the grafitti.
What level is it on? I'd love to verify.

truemagellen 12-30-2004 08:35 AM

I'll buy HL2 just to see it as well, where did you find it (ie bump :))

Sorry I didn't take more pictures of the location where it's at.

It's on one of the water craft levels towards the end of that stage - after the alien dude gives you the gun. You reach some sort of factory place with tall concrete walls around you. There's a fork where on the right a combine soldier starts shooting at you and there's a bunch of junk he's hiding in. There's a windmill up on the ledge. If you go over to the right of the fork you'll be attacked by a bunch of headhumpers. There's a makeshift shelter and you'll hear some wind chimes. Climb up the ladder to the shelter and it will be there on the wall. It was a pleasant surprise when I found it.

trophymaker 12-30-2004 08:59 AM

That is the logo for Lambda Research or whatever, the company that the main character worked for.

Is this one of the rebel bases that got wiped out? The one with the crane full of supply crates?

No, it's 1 or 2 levels before you shoot down the helicopter with the water craft. It's some sort of abandoned factory or something. You see a conveyer belt structure up in the sky.

RXGr8 12-30-2004 09:10 AM

Sorry for the dark snapshot. When I took the picture on my laptop it was nice and bright, but for some reason the end result was dark. The rotors are in the central upper right, where the shadow is.

Luftwaffle 12-30-2004 09:36 AM

I'll find it when I get home, it should only take 10 minutes. I just have to remember to look... :D

ranger4277 12-30-2004 09:39 AM

What would be cool is if you smack it with the crowbar and the rotors start to spin. :) Don't try it unless you save though! Otherwise you'll damage the art.

Luftwaffle 12-30-2004 10:03 AM

If you go hit another wall a whole bunch, the damage marks should disappear. In Half Life, the default limit of decals was 200 I think. It might be a little more in this one.

trophymaker 12-30-2004 01:05 PM

Oooh cant see it at all :(. I thought you were talking about the bright orange obviously HL2 logo. Haha.

Turn up ur monitor brightness to 100% and 100% contrast.

truemagellen 12-30-2004 02:01 PM

just press 'Print Scrn' to capture...right?

No it's different with half life. Print Scrn is a system command. You want to use the Half Life command which I think defaults to F5. It will automatically save the snapshot as a file so you take unlimited pictures while you're playing. Just look at the keyboard options in half life.

Luftwaffle 12-30-2004 02:13 PM

Just grab your digital camera and take a picture of your monitor! I've seen too many people do this...

truemagellen 12-30-2004 03:34 PM

RotaryNoob 12-30-2004 04:10 PM

I saw that my first time through the game also.

HottRx8Girl 12-30-2004 07:00 PM

Just made my friend go there...pretty cool

truemagellen 12-31-2004 01:08 PM

it's cool :)

I had no idea what people were talking about at first. Then I could barely see it so I decided to use photoshop to brighten it up a bit.

RX Renesis 01-03-2005 04:05 PM

someone go and take a few more pics of it to make sure it's there... it's not like i don't trust the dude hwo posted this but it does seem odd for valve to put something like this there...

takahashi 01-03-2005 04:38 PM

Very nice found... thank you.

Read the thread all the way and you'll see where several people confirm it. I may have to play the game again, um, just to see it. Yeah, that's why.

RX Renesis 01-03-2005 08:20 PM

i guess i'll ave to see it on my compuer for myself to believe it... so WHERE exactally is it? which level?

PaulieWalnuts 01-03-2005 08:44 PM

That's pretty cool. Which map is it? How about a picture of the entire scene highlighting the area where the rotors are?

Don Vito 01-03-2005 08:46 PM

You guys should see what people in CS : Source spray on walls. Lol.

The map is d1_canals_12. Type in the command "map d1_canals_12" in the console to go to it.

Here's a sequence of snapshots to help you get some better perspective of where it's located.

What Video card do you have?

\\Konig\\ 01-08-2005 08:27 PM

6800gt!

Rotarian_SC 01-08-2005 08:51 PM

It would make an excellent cs spray if someone could isolate it from the wall...

RXGr8 01-09-2005 11:29 AM

ATI Radeon Mobility 9600. The pics are at 1024 x 768 resolution with all the graphics settings at the highest level. I brightened them a little bit since people had a hard time seeing the original snapshot I posted. Hopefully they're easier to see.

If you're looking for the most powerful laptop in the world, get a Sager. Forget all those others. Sager's the fastest of them all. Go to sagernotebook.com or notebookforums.com.

\\Konig\\ 01-09-2005 03:21 PM

can you change the graphics card on the sager laptop like you can on the alienware laptop?

Good question. I don't think with my model you can do it (8890). I think with the latest model 9860 you can do it since it's got a pci express interface. But don't quote me on it. Since I got my laptop last year, I'm not up to speed with the latest stuff right now. I seem to remember a while ago that there was some talk about newer Sager laptops being able to upgrade the video card but I haven't kept up with it.

The thing I think is really great about Sager laptops is that a lot of them offer RAID 0, 1 configuration and they're really strict on how many dead pixels they'll allow on their LCD screens. As far as I can tell, my screen has 0 dead pixels on it.

The biggest thing that drew me to the Sager laptop was how they offered the only 7200 rpm hard drive available for laptops and since the laptop I got supports RAID 0 configuration, I got 2 of them. It's amazing how much bottleneck is in the hard drive I/O alone. I think that's the biggest drawback with laptops in general because usually the hard drives are so slow that you can't even take avantage of the rest of the hardward since it will always have to wait for hard drive I/O.

Of course the laptop I got is also a monster so if you're looking for something more portable and quiet, then other brand name laptops will work for you. The worst thing about my laptop is the fan noise. But I've quieted it down significantly since I first got it by putting insulation between the fans and where they contact the circuit boards.

Red's Faster 01-09-2005 10:19 PM

It's also near the very beginning of the game, right after you come off the roof and that girl (Alex?) saves you, you follow her through a door and to your left is:

Cool. Anyone else see this one?

\\Konig\\ 01-09-2005 10:23 PM

i seem to have missed that one

RX8_Buckeye 01-16-2005 10:11 PM

Question about HL2: for how long do I have to drive that stupid airboat around!!!? I can only play for 10 minutes at a time because I get terrible motion sickness. I just can't handle looking one way with the mouse while moving in a different different direction with the boat. I'm really hoping to travel on foot again.

\\Konig\\ 01-16-2005 10:20 PM

wow your gonna hate driving the buggy too then. Don't worry the airboat is just one level long.

Genesis 01-17-2005 08:43 AM

Reading this thread and being a rotary, game and computer aficionado is finally motivating me to upgrade my PIII 800 with GeForce2 graphics. I'm looking at building an Intel 925X express platform with an Asus P5AD2 mobo, but I'm not sure about a decent PCIe 16x graphics card since the drivers are unproven. Plus, better to wait a while for the BTX form factor?
