Jeremy Clarkson still loves the car

Jeremy Clarkson love affair with the RX-8 is still going strong 4 years on.
He rates the RX-8 as the 3rd best car in the coupé category. Great to see the car listed in such company.

1. Aston Martin V8 Vantage
2. BMW M6
3. Mazda RX-8
4. Corvette C6

Not bad at all! Especially considering the RX-8 is a fraction of the price of #s 1,2, and 4

Wheres the S2000? Interesting how he puts the C6 up there, when he was reviewing it he said that it was woefully uncomfortable and the ride was very rough.

Still good to see the rotary up there.

He's got a peculiar way of categorising cars. I guess he would have put the S2000 in the sports cars category, in which the MX-5 came tops.

The Mazda5 is also first among MPVs. I wonder if he's got some deal with Mazda.

If I didn't have an RX-8 the Z06 would be the next car I would take. It smokes lambos and still throws itself around corners very well due to its weight, which is uncommon for muscle cars.

I love it when people say stuff like this, as if you actually could have "taken" a Z06. For 3 times the price, sure.

I love it when people say things like this, as if you actually could have spent five seconds reading the post and understood what I meant.

Isn't the RX-8 technically a four-door saloon? (sedan for Americans)

And the s2k is even less of a coupe, which was what I meant by my response to Falken. I wouldn't expect the s2k to appear on anyone's list of the 5 best coupes.

But getting back to the 8, when I had my used 8 inspected before buying it, I had the service manager put on the inspection report that it was a "certified 4-door family sedan." Think that will fool the mother-in-law?

some fun bits from his review in 2003:
Now, though, they’re coming back. Joining the ancient Alfa GTV, the Toyota Celica — which is very good incidentally — and the Hyundai Coupé — which is even better — will be the Chrysler Crossfire (a Mercedes SLK in a fairly pretty shell), and the Nissan 350Z, which is better looking but a bit of a pig to drive. It’s just so wearing. Best of all, though, is the new Mazda RX-8, partly because of its rear doors, which open backwards to create a hole in the side of the car as big as the hole in the back of my head, and partly because it is so much fun talking about its Wankel rotary engine.

You’ve no need to explain how this works, because after you’ve said the name people are usually too busy laughing to be listening.

As a practical proposition: well, it’s not a people carrier but you do get a decent boot and two smallish seats in the back. And with those doors even the fattest children in the world can get in.

The RX-8 is neither a 2-door coupe, nor a 4-door coupe. It is a 2-and-two-halves-door coupe. So says me.

And despite Clarkson saying bad things about the cars he's got listed on his tops... he says bad things about EVERY car... one of his best quotes is essentially that he can find something wrong with any car on any lot.

Jeremy Clarkson it's a big head biased *******, while his comments on the RX8 are spot on, listen to his comments on the SSC Aero, not to mention that the F40 is his favorite car no matter what new awesome cars come out....

The S2000 is not a coupe... it's a roadster. That's the reason why it didn't make it onto the list.

I hope I cleared the confusion between the two (coupe and roadster).

For more clarification, I took the liberty of going over to dictionary.com and getting you guys the definition for the two.

road·ster –noun
1. an early automobile having an open body, a single seat for two or three persons, and a large trunk or a rumble seat.

coupe –noun
1. Also, coupé. a closed, two-door car shorter than a sedan of the same model.

Simply put, a roadster is a convertible, a coupe isn't. Hence the reason why it's not on the list.
