Gas Hogs - RX8 Listed

Not sure if this has been posted yet, if so sorry I overlooked it. But anyways on my homepage which is yahoo, the top news headline was gas hogs and a pic of the RX8.

At least it was a somewhat positive article. I guess we have to pay for our pleasure. The Accord maybe faster in a straight line but isn't any way near as much fun to drive than the 8.

lol I saw this too. The 8 may eat a lot of gas, but I still love it.

I still do not understand what the basis is for the 8 being considered a "gas hog". Is it the small engine size?

The CX-7 also made it on the list as well, but C&D was flattering to both, esp. the CX-7.

In this case it is probably the mpg/power ratio. They were quick to point out the corvette as having over 200 more hp and over 200 more lbs torque yet still getting 5+ mpg more.

...but then they also mentioned the 16x they are working on will supposedly make things a lot better. I'll believe it when I see it.

Last sentence of the article:

"We love 9000-rpm redlines and hope the rotary’s flatulent exhaust note will pour from generations of Mazda vehicles to come."

Flatulent exhaust note? Seriously? Are they implying that our RX-8 has 'gas'? Maybe we should start pre-mixing with Beano...

the 8's getting pounded on this forum:

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123698015

with posts like this:

The RX-8 being 1.3L is COMPLETELY irrelevant.

Its not a legitimate comparison to anything but other rotaries of which there are none. Typically cylinder engines are DRASTICALLY different and any measurements between technologies should be done on more important factors like, Weight, Output, efficiency, reliability, and longevity. All things that a Rotary sucks at compared to similar vehicle's piston engines.

There is no benefit to this in the whole of the car if it has dog **** torque output and weak gas millage to boot.

If its more efficient, reliable, and powerful; give me a 7.0L engine!
