Umm yea... You forgot to add the Cobalt SS, Mini Cooper, and Mitsubishi EVO were in that article as well. Also check some of the lap times for cars like the Audi TT, or Cobalt SS vs times for the RX8as long as you are mag racing. Careful taking your USS Reagan down to the Caribbean and it disappears.

Funny they mention the TT compared to the new Scirocco. I owned a 76 Scirocco and it was one of the best cars I've ever had- less than 2000 lbs. with a full tank of gas. When the Audi TT came out later on, I thought "here's the replacement." When I first saw one at the NY Auto show, I thought it was a really cool car (this was the first edition.) Then they mentioned the price: essentially double the price of a Jetta, which is 90% of what a TT is.

Hopefully, this car fulfills what the TT couldn't.

Evo is the best car mag on the planet,
However looking at what they compare the RX-8 to lets you know how times have passed this car by... kind of sad I did not even bother reading it.
If the RX-8 had a proper engine, I doubt it would participate in comparisons of this nature.

Pretty harsh words, considering the 8 was preferred over those far newer platforms. Maybe not the volvo, but the new VW and 1 series is nothing to sneeze at. If that's not your cup of tea, it's still winning comparo tests against sports cars, and was just rated among the best handling cars. And as for the non "proper" rotary engine...

Anyways, interesting post, thanks OP. These would be the real competitors to the 8 for those needing a 4 seater.
Grandpa?

I don't need you to explain anything to me, thanks. I was simply answering his question with one of many possibilities.

Evo is a fantastic magazine... but, did you guys read the article?

They bagged on your precious rotary!

For a truly bland engine, nothing can match a rotary, though. The old sewing machine analogy is a chiché, but it's bang on the money - the RX-8 just moans at you about its utter lack of torque, finally starting to pick the pace once the needle swings past 6500rpm. It's smooth all right, but often frustrating to use.
The even said the interior sucks!

Best cabin? Not the RX-8 (fussy design, cheap plastics)

The engine comments are subjective though I agree with the torque part (even though I've never heard of anyone complain of such a thing when discussing the 8). Most European countries have much higher standards for interior plastics/qualities, but in America we have GM/Ford/Chrysler to to compare with so in that case the RX-8's interior is rather good.

Little editing opps. Caption reads, "New Scirroco (on left)" but it's a photo of the Volvo. Doh!

No, you can only see a quarter of that picture on the page, the page above would be what it's referring to, which is a giant picture of the Scirroco.

So? Those cars still came out behind the RX-8 in terms of handling rating. You did rear the entire article right? Do you remember what handling is since you had an rx-8 once before heading to FWD-ville?
