WHOOHOOO Another shade of gray and a painted engine cover badass!!!!!!!!!!

I swear whomeva is in charge of the 8's marketing should be dragged out into the streets and shot.... repeadily and very slowly. I'm sorry as others have stated slap on some MS parts and then call it the special edition. As others have said all these mods can be done by yourself and you'll get more bang for your buck to boot. Though the new wheels have my interest slightly peeked.

I totally agree.

Mazda executives in charge of the rotary and marketing personnel should be dragged into the street and publicly whipped and caned. This anniversary "new color" RX-8 is crap. Its not what rotary enthusiasts are hungry for. Who the hell is going, "oh, I just need a rainbow colored RX-8. Please Mazda, give us a new color."

What they ought have done is told the R&D and the engineers to find another 50HP or more. That would have generated more excitement and sales. Come out with more HP and then people will buy other accessories.

I think we ought to get a list of Mazda executives and marketing people responsible for this craziness. Do these people live in a bubble or something and never talk to rotary buyers and potential buyers?

Jesus man... how many 'special editions' of the 8 does the world need?

Shinka, Kuro, PZ, A-Spec, "Mazdaspeed", 40th Ann.

Seems to me like they should be spending less time coming up with mediocre "special" renditions of the car and more time improving the model as a whole. Just a thought.

New paint / interior color takes minimal workl for a guy to come up with and set the factory up for it.

I don't think it's the marketing directors fault, (s)he is probably running on a thread bare budget.

That said the pipe dream is always there.

Ah you bunch of cry babies, the RX-8 is wonderful car just the way it is thank you. Just be happy there is a 40th anniversary edition RX-8 coming.

To put it in perspective, the 10th anniversary RX-7 and Miatas were nothing more than dressed up versions with special colors and badges. So was the 35th anniversary 350Z for that matter (well, I lied, the Z did get a tiny bump in hp that year).

I for one am glad that Mazda is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the rotary with a unique RX-8.

Yes, great. They are celebrating it, but there is nothing wrong with thinking that Mazda, just might, I mean, just might think a little bit about improving the wonderful car into maybe an outstanding car..

Thing is, history shows us that sometimes wonderful cars become a little bit less than wonderful. Remember the GTI.

They made a mazdaspeed NB in 2005, the 6th model year. So maybe we'll get a MS in 2009...

Yay! Let the rumors fly...

I'm really glad it sucks so bad.... it wont sour me about my own. If they released one with a turbo or something else to really make it kick ***, I'd be trying to trade in. Don't feel like going through that.

im too excited for a DI renesis to care about current rx8s coming out. most special edition cars are nothing more than paint and wheels....those wheels do NOT flow with the rx8s curvy lines.....shows they got too many old ppl makin descisions up there, they need young fresh looks at styling....

but i am glad that they even make a 40th edition. TECHNICALLY 2007 was 40th so i was a lil bummed when it was a no show when the first 07s came off the truck, but since they will make em for 08, im happy they even acknowledge the fact that its been 40 yrs....maybe one day if the number is low the 40th will be worth SOME money, like in 40 yrs>?

who knows...the MS 8 will be not much more than that either so who cares, look at the nizmo 350z i bet those forums are on fire with complaints. like no hp diff, only styling and suspension/tires/wheels....the rx8 will be the same, body kit rims and suspension so dont be so mad when we get stiffed, other companies do that too....anyone remember the dodge SRT-4 ACR version?

neither does anyone else!

The Mazda RX-8 redefined the sports car segment when it was launched in summer 2003, and it continues to shake up the automotive world’s definition of what a sports car can be.
Could they blow any more smoke up their asses?

Rojo then you wouldnt be able to run in BS class anymore. Oh wait you have a MS cold air intake, you can't legally run in BS anymore Just messing with you.

Sorry about going off topic but lets face it everyone is just bitching anyway.

I do agree with most everyone though, something other then a different paint job and some wheels. Come on give us some more HP, a Pettit SC would be awesome.

We need to accept the fact that Mazda chose profit over their rotary heritage, at least in this generation rotary. It was a business decision. As much as we'd love to have seen the RX8 improve performance wise, financially it would be a very bone headed move. The car hasn't warmed up to the general public, it's not selling well compared to it's competitors, or at all now. I truly believe that even with bumped up performance, it would still be struggling in the market place.

Enthusiasts cars don't make car companies money, general consumer cars do, so Mazda is doing the right thing here for themselves and their business, even if I or others don't like it. The next generation rotary is their chance to bring back some major enthusiasm. The RX8 was rebirth in North America, to get our feet wet for the future.
