Here is another one that I was watching with some random competitions, when all of the sudden they had a Touge battle with... the RX-8! The Touge (pronounced Toh-gay) is the Intial D style racing where it's racing down a twisty narrow mountain pass. They have different classes for it and this was the 300 HP and below class. There's a Touge monster which is the current champion (in this case a tuned S2K). So they have 3 pro drivers each take a turn on the cars for time and give their impressions.

For a summary...

The Drift King bags on the car a little before taking it out. But as he goes down the roads he's surprised about how well it handles. All the drivers really like it.

And it happens to get the best time out of the "challengers". The drivers pick it as the best to drive too so it gets to compete vs the "touge monster", the Amuse S2K.

Needless to say the RX-8 gets SPANKED royally. The RX-8 guy cheats a little (false start) but the S2K spanks it. Tsuchiya who was driving the S2K even slowed down for a lot of it to taunt the RX-8.

But in the 8's defense, they all said it was a worthy challenger and that it performed incredibly well cuz it only had 200 HP... (and that it should compete in the 200 HP and under category). Then Tsuchiya said "yeah and get the displace ment under 1.6L too if you want to compete in the 200 class" whereas the owner of the RX8 said "uh, it's 1.3". Haha. Also remember that the S2K in question was tuned to 300 HP so it's not really a surprise it lost.

I think it would have been more of a fair challenge with Tsuchiya's 86 Corolla. But fujita's car only has an intake header, full exhaust and a piggyback ecu...but only making 200ps. i think it did pretty well on this episode.

Great vid, Shaolin. Thx for sharing.

It was nice to see the BMI team go at it. Feel sorry for the RX-8 though... but its nice to see it only needs power, unlike some cars who only have that....

I hope they test some superchargers soon!!!

But ths gets me thinking... for the price of a slighly used RX-8, a TC or SC and some tuning, why not get an FD instead?

Because that is closer to what the Renesis actually puts out. Do you really think the Renesis puts 232hp at the crank but only 185hp to the wheels??? Mazda will never admit that the true flywheel hp is closer to 210-215hp.

I know its actually lower from what Mazda gave us but why only 220 after FEED mods, is that the whp?

Does anyone know what was done to the RX-8 in the Touge battle sequence? Both drivers commented on how stable and 'not scary' the 8 was.

The 8 was modded by Feed. Here is the list from the Touge video:
Feed header, Feed exhaust, Feed body-kit, Feed ECU, 4.7 Final Drive, AT5 Carbon 2-way LSD, Feed Dampners, Feed Springs, Trust Calipers, Trust Pads, Advan Neowa (sp?) Tyres- 255/35/18 (FR). Car weights 2888lbs.

I didn't watch the entire video, but what in the hell...

The RX-8 and Honda S2k put out about the same horsepower, and have a roughly comparable powerband.

Every test I've ever read shows the 8 and S2K to be about equal in power and acceleration.

So what's this?

The S is lighter and puts more power to the wheels than the 8 and has a stiffer suspension setup. In the Touge battle they both are modded so it kind of no contest unless the 8 gets more power. Read FI.

The amuse s2k is way lighter. Most of its body panels are dry carbon/ carbon fiber that are painted, and naturally the s2k is about 200 + lbs lighter than the rx8 plus the weight reduction that was done.

^^Makes me feel good inside seeing how the FEED RX-8 almost set the Touge track time and won the 300 class with 200hp.

Now I feel like a fanboy.

Um, that's true if you don't count the Touge "monster", the Amuse S2K. The Amuse S2K destroyed the RX-8 if you didn't notice... I mean, the RX-8 driver tried to cheat AND Tsuchiya was slowing down a lot of the time to taunt the RX-8 driver and even with the slowdowns, he still won handily.

So what's this?
Because these were modified cars. The RX-8 in this one was close to 200HP (they said 200, not 238, I dunno where the loss of power is from), the S2K in this one was close to 300HP... So in this battle the S2K had a decisive horsepower advantage. If they souped up the RX-8 to simlar horsepower, then it might win. I think everyone is pretty sure that it would win the 200 class though. Tsuchiya seemed kinda scared of the RX-8 entering against the Touge monster for the 200 class.

Thats why I said *ALMOST* set the Touge track time (though it did beat the other challengers). They even stated so in the vid, if I remember correctly . Kinda harsh that they pwned the 8 so bad with the Amuse, lol.
