Autoweek starts 2-door/Convertible RX8 rumor

According to Autoweek ( http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102714 ) Mazda wants to expand its lineup and they say that there are possibly 2-door and convertible versions of the RX8 planned, though not yet approved. Nothing but conjecture; but a little bit of information. I'm sure these would be RX7 models if they come to fruition.

It'd be easy, just adjust the looks of the Mx-5 to match the 8 (wouldn't take much :p ), drop in the Reny, and tadah!! 2500lb Rx-7. :D

Autoweek starts 2-door/Convertible RX8 rumor

nah they are just late to the band wagon that rumour started rigth after they announced the RX-8 was greenlighted like 3 years ago

and you dont have to "think" about whether a vert would look right or not you can look at one and make up your mind now

besides the correct rumour is for a 2 door and a 2 door vert not a full size 8 vert.

Cut the wheelbase, do away w/ the half doors and the looks will be there. Instead of growing a Z like with the G35C, shrink an 8 to a new 7.

Mazda told Automotive News that they were working on the 2-door and the convertible about 6 months ago at one of the last big auto shows.

I just don't see Mazda risking sales of the Miata, by introducing another lightweight, 2 seat convertible into their lineup. Particularly with the new additions to the roadster market later this year.

I don't think the appearance of an rx-convertible would necessarily cannibalize Miata sales. IMHO they appeal to different markets.

Why don't they just offer an optional Renesis with the Miata?
