I don't care what they put it in, as long as I can get one put in the Kabura model...that's got to be a near 375-400bhp engine.

I don't either...I'm thinking if that engine exists, it would be just for racing, or something like your Cosmo...I wasn't really clear in my post, I was thinking engine swap.

har har har!

They're not going to drop a 400 hp rotary engine into a 4 door car from the 70's. Silly!

there is still the posibility mazda wants to get up to the corvette, skyline, porche 911 level, and if they are going to do it it will have to be with a light car and a engine that make 350+ hp

I guess i'm the only one here who doesn't like the new mazda concept cars.

i'd much prefer something sleek and sporty. even a mildly modified rx-7 from 10 years ago would work nicely.

I dont like them either, but remember that they are only conceps, they change alot before they resemble something that might hit the road

That Ryuga would be a hell of a predecessor to the current 3(hatch) though wouldnt it? I actually really liked it when I saw it in person. The pictures don't do it justice.

Was this actually mentioned somewhere and I missed it? I said something about a 2.0L yesterday but it was purely me rambling. You could make a hell of a lot of (piston amounts) of torque with something that large.

Zoom made mention in his last post.

I really liked the Kabura concept with the exception of the third door.

On the Kabura boards, someone did a Photochop of the Ryuga with a spolier and aero kit... looks interesting-

2L with DI would be a huge leap of advancement for the engine. I would sell my kidneys in a heartbeat.

I'm sure most of the people here would like to see a new RX-7 in some form or fashion, or at least another rotary sports coupe with some more power. The problem is that we're seeing piston engines becoming so much more technologically advanced, getting more horsepower per liter, higher red lines, better fuel economy because everyone in the industry uses them.. whereas Mazda is all by themselves these days with the Rotary and you just don't have the financial backing to get that kind of technological advancement and research done.

The technology gap is only getting wider and by 2010/2011, the rotary may just be too far behind. Yes, there are some technologies that are applicable to both, IE direct injection, new forms of ignition, ethanol/methanol injection, however the rotary is still behind by quite a bit. In order for a new RX-7 to come along and be successful in today's piston world, it is my opinion that a technological leap will be required.
Technological leap:
Make the 20B emmisions friendly and drop it into the 8. Already have the engine blueprints. The technology that was used to make the Renesis emmisions friendly is also documented and blueprinted. Now making a 20B Renesis with already existing parts and R&D cuts development cost by a lot. 2700-2900lb RX8 with a 20B Renesis cranking out 325bhp with the same gas mileage or slightly better. The 20B is already been EXTENSIVELY tried and tested through many races NA and FI'd.
