Except the WRX has better skidpad numbers.

1) No it doesn't... it's not even close.

2) Even if it was, the skidpad is only an indicator of handling. You can make several muscle cars attain 1.0 on the skidpad with the right suspension/tires setup, but they'll still handle poorly on the road.

My bad, I meant the STi version, not the normal WRX.

I'd gladly take the Impreza STI engine in place of the rotary, or at least the torque from the STI. But as far as looks, the 8 wins easily.

It should, have you seen those tires. They are pretty much slicks.

I wouldn't. I personally wish the wrx had a rotary when I had one. Despite the supposed low power, the RX8 is far more drivable in real life, where you can't always go full out..

The STI's engine is too large to fit in the RX8. The whole point of using the tiny and lightweight rotary is that it allows for superior vehicle balance and toss-ability... anyone who'd sacrifice that for more torque shouldn't own an RX8.

Yeah, but the RE040's that come on the RX8 are pretty frigging good tires too. They are the standard tires on the regular STi overseas. Compare them to the RE92's...

Boxer engines do mount nice and low though
