Winter tires on 16" rims.. Will this work?

My 8 runs on 18" rims, but the guy I go with at the tire shop says the car can do 16" rims for winter without issue, and save a bundle of money at the same time... But I thought I should ask the experts before I make a potentially huge mistake. Any advice?

if you have a manual GT, it the 16" will not clear the brakes.

NO!!!!!

Unless you have a base model AUTO from 04, you'll need 17" to clear the front brakes.

Find another tire shop, or, be there when he tries to install the front wheels.
