Question Window Whistling

Lately my drivers side front window seems to whistle almost like it's open a crack when I'm driving on the highway (higher speeds). I've checked several times and there doesn't seem to be anything in between the door seal and the door/window and the window is definitly closed (I opened and closed it several times with no improvement). It may just be wind noise but for some reason I don't remember this happening before. Any ideas?

Most cars make more wind noise in cold weather, when the seals aren't as pliable and mold able than they do in warm weather when the windows seal better.

That said, if you can do it without crashing, see if you can isolate the point where the noise is coming from and have your dealer look at it.

Another good, although tedious exercise is to close a 3" wide strip of typing paper into the door and see if you can pull it through. If you can't, the seal is tight. Try to figure out where the noise is coming from, then repeatedly make this test until you find the spot, THEN look and see if 1) the seal is failing, 2) the seal is torn or crushed, 3) the door is out of adjustment.

Good luck. Wind leaks are a pain.

my car has the same whistling, and it has nothing to do with the cold. It always whistles when i drive fast. It sounds like the window is slightly open or the door is ajar. I think it's just the way the window and door are made, wind makes noise as it passes over it.

I think this is a good test to see who pays attention to their car and who doesn't

I thought our Bose stereos were supposed to do that!

My car whistles.
Does the passenger side whistle, too? I haven't been over there to check it out.

Mine does it too, was paranoid at first but after closing and opening the window with the same results appearing, I just gave up and said what the hell. And like Jason said, weather has nothing to do with it, it will whistle in hot or cold weather...as long as water dont start dripping inside, then I don't care more or less :p

funny you guys mentioned this...my dealer is supposed to fix this next week probably Wed December 22nd, it has been driving me CRAZY

I love driving with no music on some time just so I can hear and feel the engine and the car better...but this whistling drives me coo coo! No wonder JasonHamilton hears this too he is a great promoter of no music driving...great for a nice exhilirating drive...will be more exciting with a Hymee exhaust soon

Ok so back to the whistling...keep the reports coming guys...I'll print it out...bring it to the dealership and maybe we can get this to become a TSB since it is really F-in annoying

Thanks guys!!!!!!

It's slightly annoying, but not as bad as that rattle in my driver side speaker...

What do you think they can fix? If it's just the wind blowing past the door, I don't see what can be done.

the reason I thought they could fix it is that it only happens on the driver's side door not the passengers...plus it is only occuring at a specific point on the window, actually if I push up on the window using the friction of my hand...it deadens the sound a bit (and leaves a big handprint for the microfiber towel to remove :p)...so that is a good sign it could be fixed, give it a try or even better push a towel up to the site of the noise and you can see it deadens a bit...so I'm guessing changing the position of the window or better insulation could fix it...we'll see

I'll give you an update next week on how things go...my best friend is in town so I may not make it to the dealership till after New Years...I sure hope not since the brake squeal I'm going in for too... is damn annoying

oh and about that speaker...mine's doing it too! Which one are you refering too Jason? Probably same as mine...I'll have them look at it too...maybe they can tell me how to fix it for others like the window (I've been going to my service place for over 22 years so the guys there know me by name...they know I'm going to walk in with TSB print outs and more, so they give me a hard time jokingly)

One time I thought mine was whistling, but it was just the passenger screaming in terror when I passed 8k rpm in 1st gear... ;-)
