wimpy shifting?

I was reading my owner's manual the other day and I noticed that it recommends upshift speeds as follows:

1 - 2 > 14mph
2 - 3 > 22mph
3 - 4 > 29mph
4 - 5 > 36mph
5 - 6 > 40mph

I tried this and it puts the upshift at just about a 3k rpm (maybe a tad over). This seems like a really wimpy upshift rev speed. I know different drivers have different styles, but at what rpm do you guys out there generally shift up? What is really the optimum range for the 8?

it is wimpy. but the reccomendation is for getting the best fuel economy, not the best performance

Once the engine is wamed up, I usually shift somewhere between 8500 and 9300 rpms for the first two gears :D . I usually shift at about 4-5 K in the other gears.

Sometimes, I shift at 9000 rpms in third gear too. Never hit 9000 rpms in 4th but I've been close. Usually run out of straightaway by then.

What is redline in 4th anyway? I've only been to about 123 mph in 4th and I think I was pushing 7-8K rpm but don't remember because I was busy driving at the time.

So
1-2 40 mph
2-3 65-70 mph
3-4 90 mph
4-5 ???
5-6 ???

^ note this strategy might not yield optimal fuel economy.
