Why are you selling your RX-8?

To the people selling or considering selling:

Why? You must have good reasons. Maybe you can share them.

Not selling mine, but when the lease is up I will get rid of it for a small pickup truck.. If the SVR adrenalin is ready, I'll buy one of those..

How do you like the corvette and mazda6?

Do you mind not having the extra room in the C6?

The Corvette has a rear hatch, and has a lot more usable luggage room. The RX-8 trunk opening was too small for a duffle bag or large suitcase, and the console in the middle of the back seat gets in the way. I rarely needed the back seat. The C6 gets about 25 MPG on trips. The best I ever got with the RX-8 was 21 MPG. I do miss the 8, but the C6 helps to ease the pain. The Mazda6 has a dash that's similar to the 8, so I feel at home. The Mazda6 has a 6-speed AT and 220 HP versus 4-speed AT and 197 HP for the 8, so the acceleration is good, but it doesn't rev like the rotary!

When my lease is up I'm going to consider
1) buying it
2) mazda 3 wagon
3) scion xB - box. ugly, yes. but for some reason it appeals to me.
4) a different car all together

the reason i'm iffy on buying the rx-8 is the gas costs, it's a little impractical (ie i'm afraid of flooding problems which means i don't valet and the like), and i'm not sold on the reliability. i love the car though.

For a new RX-8.

After 18 months of modest black (my lease expires) I'll change to flashy red for thrills.

1) Too many cars... I have two Miatas and the RX-8, and my boyfriend (who now lives with me) has a Miata, a GTO, a Camaro, an El Camino, and a Harley. He's selling his Harley, and I'm selling the RX-8.

2) California Real Estate prices ... I'd eventually like to buy a house, but when a halfway decent one costs well over half a million bucks, I have to downsize my monthly expenditures if I ever hope to afford one. As much as I like the RX-8, I obviously don't need the car, and I don't need the monthly payments, gasoline bill, or insurance premiums. It's by far the most expensive of my cars to keep.

Not planning to sell mine any time soon, but it would be for one extreme or the other. Either an SUV for winter (but I hate driving those in the summer!!) or another convertible (I really miss going topless when the weather beckons. A convertible RX8 would have me in tears!!

The Miatas are cheap to keep.... paid for, cheap to insure, get good gas mileage. The 8 is much more expensive per month when you consider car payments, gas, and insurance. And I wouldn't get enough for either of the Miatas to make it worth selling them... my daily driver is my '91 base model Miata that I've owned since it was new. It's only worth about $2000 according to Kelly Blue Book (no A/C, no power steering, 132,000 miles).

I'm hoping the CA real estate bubble's going to deflate in the next two years; I want to be completely debt free with lots of freed-up monthly income to qualify for a mortgage on an actual house (not a cramped condo like I'm currently renting).

When my lease is up, that's it on sports cars for me for a bit ... the lease on this car expires (very conveniently, I might add) exactly 1 month before my son will get his driver's license. So, then it's to a "sensible shoes" car ... although I'm sure my choice will still be entertaining. Looking at either a 5-series BMW or a E-Class or CLS class Mercedes-Benz. But got 2 1/2 more years to look ... and to enjoy the yellow rocket.

I have been through alot with my 8. Down for 50 days with engine replacement. Almost did lemon law, been running great since the new engine & I will consider a trade in to either a new RX-8, Mazda Speed 6 or Acura TL. No hurry right now just enjoying driving the car again. When you think about it you almost have to spend 20K more to get a car thats as pretty or as much fun to drive.

I'm considering trading it for a lexus RX 400h. I need a little more utility, a better business car, with a little more luxury, and good gas mileage.

Only thing is, I'd like to keep it and just get the Lexus as another car...that would be the best option, but I don't know if it would be cost effective...

No ****! My car is having its engine replaced right now too. Why the heck did it take you 50 days to have it fixed? How hard is it to do lemon law? We are thinking about it as well.

These stories are so sad...but a house is more important than a car and honestly (forgive me for saying it)...the main task of a car is to take you from point A to point B reliably. Sometimes there are bigger things in life and a car is the first place that might be considered a place to save money.

Sad for those who are going to change cars one day...but stick around...

Haven't sold mine yet, love it to much. The wife thinks otherwise, with our first child on the way she thins I need a "family" car. We have a 4 runner now so I don't see the problem. If I have to trade it in the 6 looks good.

After my lease is up, I will sell for two reasons.

1. Fuel economy, particularly in light of increasing fuel prices,and;
2. Power, and;
3. Visibility while driving.

Don't get me wrong, all up I love the car, but I like the idea of trying different cars every 3 years. Very keen to suss out a Honda S2000 as next option.

I never had a sports car growing up... always bought practical, but call it a mid life crisis or something I don't know... at some point you have to live a little bit.

Emotionally, I don't think I could get rid of my car... It was an agonizingly painful process to buy her, and to be honest, I am extremely glad I did.

I may trade for another 8 someday, or trade for a new 7 if one ever becomes available, or I may never trade it and just keep it.

To be honest, this car has always done it for me... the looks on the outside are fantastic, and behind the wheel offers an equal amount of satisfaction... There aren't many cars out there that do this really... I've seen cars I've liked, test drove them, and walked away completely unimpressed. The opposite has happened as well... Most of your experience is behind the wheel, so that's really the most important part, but to have both with this car is special to me.

Thanks,
Hskr8
Same story, mostly but I have not had to consider selling.
My last car was a 98 Civic LX. Like you I reached a point (44 in my case) where I wanted to enjoy my daily drive and the Civic was just not doing it for me.
My RX has changed my drive from some endured to something enjoyed. Who says that you can't buy happiness?
