Get a guarantee. Most shops offer them anyway. My only concern is that it has already been painted once. So now you will have two coats of paint over the bumper. You don't want any more than that.

I would not accept it if I had made it a point for them not to install the emblem. Was it written up when you spoke to the service guy? if so, it belongs to them and they have not put yours on yet! IMHO

Sorry to hear about this Dro. I'd probably have them fill it, then give you a couple free oil changes for your trouble. If not you can take it up with someone higher up the food chain. Either way, hope it works out.

Word thanks man, I have the worst luck when it comes to, well, everything. I am having them fill and paint, and I shall refuse to leave w/o a guarantee for the life of the bumper that it will wear exactly as it should have w/o the holes, and that if any damage is caused by said holes, they will replace it at no charge.

That is crap. My question is why does the emblem have to have pins in it that needs holes drilled into the bumper?!

You may be okay as the Mazdaspeed bumper is fairly rigid. I agree with getting a written signed doc on their guarantee and replacement if not completely satisfied.

I like the emblem but some don't. It is like the clear corners some love em and others can't stand em.

What I did was have the body shop shave the damn pins off the emblem and double sided tape it to the bumper on top of the 3M clear bra. Very happy with knowing I may pull it off without having to fill holes. I loved the orange corners before, but now I have the clears.

then again as soft as the paint is on the front bumpers, it might be a good thing.

Bummer that happened to you Dro.
Fortunately they were able to make it look like new and as long as you got that guarantee in writing, you should be in good shape.

Well you don't want much paint on a surface. The reason is that in the hot sun your bumper and metal panels on the car expand and the paint must expand with it. If you have several layers of paint on something it wont expand like it should and eventually it will get small spider web cracks and then start coming off. So usually less is better.

Glad you got them to fix it. I say from now on, try another dealer unless you have to take it in for the holes.

If you got your request, in writing, to leave off the emblem, and keep the stock bumper intact then you should have a solid case against them. Otherwise it is your word against theirs, and it boils down to how much integrity that dealership has.

I am fairly sure there is an additive that is put into the paint before it is applied so it can flex and not crack.

If a person puts 3M clear applique on the bumper it stays in nice shape. Granted it doesn't save from large objects that are hurled at the car at an incredible rate.
