Yeah a simple question, you'd think a simple answer would suffice.

swoope, just leave people alone if you don't like what they say. You have this obsession with the word "troll" that borders on unhealthy. The fact is is that you seem to lack the understanding that people can have opinions and viewpoints that differ from yours.

The internet is all about freedom of speech, so no one is going to listen to you no matter how many times you put them down.

tell me, what is it about these "1.3L Rotor" engines yall seem to love so much? is there something about rotors that make it some-what powerful or more efficient than a regular valve engine? I seriously do not understand, can someone please explain this to me?

Anyways, why shouldn't I buy an RX-8, when I could have a 6.0L V8, 400hp GTO!

uh,
your post had nothing to do with the ? how hard is that...

you dont have an rx8 so why did you bother to post???? as i said before start you own thread... some one pissed you off and you get to write whatever you want??? are you from jersey????

I bought a 2004 a week ago. So far, I've loved the car.

As for 2004 versus later models, I got a much better deal on a 2004 so went with it. The car has had all the TSBs taken care of and seems to have been well-maintained by a forum regular (a certain peace of mind).

If you know the potential down-side to the car, I see no reason not to buy one. But, as is always the case, it depends on what you like. I prefer the sophistication of the 8, with the sweet sound of the rotary, the well-appointed interior, and the understated but striking appearance. I think it's very practical for a true sports car.

The only reason I can think of that you might hesitate to buy it is if you want to put on a lot of after-market mods. I'm not a heavy-mod person, so I haven't investigated mods a lot; but I get the impression it's easier to mod some other cars than the 8 and that the after-market on the 8 isn't as developed as some others. Others on this forum could tell you a lot more about that than I can; and many have performed serious mods, so know how easy or difficult they are.

As for the GTO, I like the car. It's heavy, but the interior is quite nice and the exterior, while not dramatic, is attractive (it doesn't stand out in a crowd, though). I test-drove a 2004, but wasn't impressed: the 350 hp engine isn't strong enough for the weight of the car. The 2005 has 400 horses, though, so should be a much better straight-line performer. After test-driving an 8, I was far more impressed and, eventually, bought one.

The original post asked to even include nit-picky things. I love the car enormously, best car I've ever owned. But I can come up with some nitpicky things I don't care for. I'll list them, but do bear in mind, I wouldn't at all consider them, individually or collectively, to be reasons to not buy the car:

1) Sunroof is too small, way too far back. If you're a short guy like me, and have to have the seat pretty forward, then the sunroof is not over you, it's *behind* you.

2) Trunk opening is too small. I actually had to repack a suitcase once because it wouldn't fit into the opening. Meant I had to lug an extra bag around with me. Annoying.

3) The Sirius satellite radio service (is that only a Shinka thing?) sucks. The content is great, but it loses the signal at the drop of a hat. It just flat out doesn't work in a shady, tree-overhung area.

4) 5w20 is not the easiest oil to find, many gas stations don't carry it.

5) The ventilation controls frequently don't do what I want. In particular, if you want recirculated (not fresh) air, be prepared to argue with the thing a lot.

6) I really could do without the back seat console; makes it impossible to lay something long and flat (like a guitar) across the back seat.

7) They make an automatic transmission version. (sorry, only kidding, auto guys. )

Pretty small nits, all in all. There's probably one or two more I'm not thinking of. For the record, I've never had any problems with rattles, after over a year.

to the comment about "its not what a car l ooks like its whats under the hood"

if that were true we would ALL be driving around in unpainted fiberglass boxes that are ALL the same shape/size and the only way to tell which would be a better car would be to see how fast my ugly cheap box can out run your ugly cheap box.

The only downside I can think of are:
- No spare tire kit / no trunk space with spare tire
- Hot interior / blows warm air if the car is left sitting after a drive in hot weather
- Some creature comforts not available on Canadian models: rain-sensing wipers, auto light, auto temp control
- need engine temp to be normal before shutting down

And for anyone that does not know what the rotary is about. Just drive it and listen to the engine.

My only nitpick on the car is I am afraid to park it in places I didn't think twice about leaving my old Shitbox. (no one else had thought of that one!!!)

I'd like the lights to come on automatically at a certain "dark point" and turn off automaticaly on a delay when I turn off the car. Or, I wish the headlights came on automatically when I turned on the car and turned off automatically when I turned it off.

My a/c works great except when I'm sitting at a light immediately after starting up. And, I love the backseat console.

Yes, the cup holders seem to be beverage warmers. I tried using a scent can that opens automatically when the temperature is cool and closes when it's hot; but since I put it in the rear cup holder, it would never open due to the heat!

Frankly, none of these things is important enough to discount the car. It more than makes up for these "issues."

OK I am going to Chime in here... I love my 8, the small things I just overlook and deal with , Based on this is a great all around sports car, 4 doors , 1.3 engine all that equals cheap insurance for me, hell this thing is cheaper to insure than my Harley!

And the GTO.... looks just like the 2 door Grand Prix when they came out...big engine but to me not worth the price they get you for. ok done....good to see your still the same swoope

Fair enough. It's fast enough for a reliable DD for me though, especially considering my other car. If I want fast I have an alltrac that'll be 500+whp when I'm done with it in a month or so.

Still, a very good point.

It's made me even more obsessive than what I normally am about my car, and I'm normally pretty obsessive!
