why is the resale value on 8's so poor?
Considering the "type" of car it's equivalents rival such as the S2000, 350Z's and other similar "roadster coupe's"

resale is poor because mazda overproduced them when they overestimated demand.
then mazda had to offload them by doing deep discounts off MSRP. At one point people were buying for 8-9k under MSRP for brand new Rx-8s. This in turn forced the used RX-8's to drop their price even further to sell. Afterall, who'll pay 20k for a car with 15k miles when you can buy one for 20k brand new?
Mazda has since dropped production down to a reasonable level, but we still feel it's effects.

The other cars you mention, while special in their own way, are kind of mainstream. There's kind of a regular market in people who buy them and sell in a few years. Mostly toy of the moment, handed around from owner to owner.
Most RX-8 owners would never dream of selling their cars. I don't want to say that someone who gets rid of an 8 is a feeb, but most sellers just aren't the top of the heap and let themselves be taken on the deal.
Tough on a worthy RX-8 owner who has to sell their car for reasons beyond their control, but the mob sets the market.

It is now 2 years old, with 25,000 miles
People sell cars like mine for about $18000-$19000 <-- there is the real value
KBB says it is worth $22,480 <--- that is what a bank will loan against the car
So I have lost about $2000 in 2 years.
Or $1000 per year
or $83.34 per month . .. . ..
That sounds pretty good to me.

The KBB on my car was 19k and I got 16k for it. I also consider the sale an incredible stroke of luck.
Our cars are a testament that Kelly is crap. You will get laughed off the car lot if you mention that name in this area.

you'll see. When we all drive electric golf carts, RX-8's with their fossil fuel rotary engines will be worth a fortune if they aren't rusted to pieces by then. People like Jay Leno will pay stupid amounts of money for em.

I think in addition to the power shortage, it is also a lack of support from Mazda. I have alot of people tell me what a nice car I have and then in the same question ask me what it is and who makes it.

Oh dear god, not this again. The resale value isn't crap, it's pretty average. Do some research before posting this stuff over and over and over again. This has been discussed pretty thoroughly about every 2 months for the past three years.

It's not cheap. It was made to be affordable in the first place.
