My brakes were squealing, the dealer honored the TSB and turned the rotors, problem solved. It is unfortunate that the majority of Mazda technicians are incompetent, but that is the sorry state of the USA. Fat stupid and lazy.

I got my front brake pads replaced under the original TSB back when my car had 19,000 miles on it (now has 60,000). It was squealing like a pig prior to the TSB work, but since then it has been pretty quiet. I notice the occasional squeal when slowly approaching a red light once in a while, but nothing at all like it was before. Now that the car is out of warranty, I just don't worry about it. As long as the brakes are working properly, a squeal once in a while doesn't really bother me.

So, you should just tell your service department to perform the TSB work and see what happens. Who knows, it might just work....

 

yeah and I can't believe I read the whole crappy thing.

 

I regret buying the car b/c I have had friends come to sites like this to check things out and every time they say stuff like, "What'ss up with the owners playing with Transformers or naming thier cars."

It's embarrasing.. Had it happen today.

 

I go back and forth about regretting buying my RX8 every day. I had a bunch of problems with mine that I feel were build quaity issues. The night I drove my car home from the dealer I had a bad rattle between the door/dash on the drivers side, then my cupholder door broke and my brakes started squeeling, warm a/c, pair that with leaky headlights and condensation.

I took it in and got most of all that stuff fixed but it was a pain taking the car in with my work schedule and I still feel like the plastics/interior is very cheap. I do love the smoothness of the engine and handling though.

I always thought the quality of the interior was one of the RX's strengths.

 

Things like interior are relative, depending on what else you've experienced. I think that accounts for the differences in interior satisfaction.

If you've had a Lexus, BMW, Acura, or many other cars, including many psuedo-exotics, the RX interior is Ok - a cut above many, certainly not economy cheap, but not over the top with conspicuous expensive materials. Some bits are poorly made - ctr console cover e.g. Also there are several area of 'command and control' that are not done as well as other cars, and some fluff bits that Mazda choose to leave out of our N American models that would have greatly improved the perceived 'quality level' of the interior and interior controls available.

Such things as these would have greatly improved overall car ergonomics - climate control, telescoping wheel, auto headlight on/off, side mirror lighting, side mirror directionals, coin holders rather than a coin tray, aux in connections, real guages for oil/temp/volts, more refined center dash display, plus others, take you pick from your own favorites.

 

No, the issue is you're either some kid with too much time on his hands, or someone who hasn't a clue about how to take care of a car. Either way, be gone troll!

Very true statements, I will say that the RX8 is inferior to my S2000 or my last sedan, a BMW M3. However, it was a cut above my 2000 Honda Civic EX even after I put leather seats in it from an Integra GSR. It looks more upscale and the pseudo wet seat material seats are much better than the ugly plaid patterns of the 90's.

The build quality just isn't so great though, I think everyone can think of at least 1-2 rattles/squeaks when theirs was new and the cupholder door/assembly is poorly designed with cheap plastics. I would've loved climate control and a coin holder and aux-in, and functional gauges, all the other stuff is just cosmetics.

 

Stop your bitching and go get some new breakpads... jesus. My brakes have squeeled since day 3 of owning the car. You know what it made me think? "Good excuse for getting awsome pads when I do change them"

You're driving the wrong car mister... If you cant handle a few idosyncrasies in exchange for everything you ARE getting out of the car, go buy a flippn Buick... my grandma has had one for 20 years and the brakes have never squeeled, the cupholders are just fine, and the headlamps are clear as day.

Or maybe you just need to grow some ***** and DEMAND (not ask for) replacement parts as per warrenttee... do any of the above, just stop your bitching. If the thousands of PROs cant weight out the few CONs on this car for you then why the hell did you buy it?

Next he's gunna complain that "for $30k I shouldnt be driving a car that has the potential to stall..." Its an RX car, obviously you didnt know what kinds of responsiblities come along with driving such a unique car. It will have its little issues.

I have no sympathy what-so-ever for anyone who goes out and buys a car without researching its weakpoints and downfalls first. Next time, be an educated and informed buyer and this wont happen again. These forums exisited long before you bought the car, and had you read them first, you would have been aware of these TERRIBLE manufacturing details.

Forgive me for being so harsh, but I cant stand to see people continue to feel justified in bashing an AMAZING car for the couple of smaller things that I can so easily ignor every time I get in the car. If it all bothers you that much, go get a Mazda6 or something.

 

I have 2 RX-8's, and neither of them squealed up until one was about 1 year old. While I think its a bit extreme to hate the car for squealing brakes, I can understand the car not performing "as purchased". The squeal is irritating, and if he wants it removed, it is possible and mazda should deliver that service. From a customer service standpoint, it isn't that hard to give him new pads or perform break in at the service shop. If they had said it would be loud and annoying from the start, then it would be his issue. There is a customer service problem you are experiencing and I can certainly understand you being irritated about that. I told my dealership to fix it and they did. qwest75, if your dealorship doesn't fix it, it sounds like you need to work them over a bit

 

I had mine replaced 2 years ago (as per waranty) when the car had 1 year of service, NO ishues since.

I too regret buying the car.
Now I actually care where I park it, I have to make time to wash it EVERY week, I need to make excuses just to go out and drive it, I take the long way around to get places just because the turns are better and there aren't as many pot holes. It is very exausting and irritating

 

 

I've had a bad throat problem (not sure if its just strep or mono) and ended up in the hospital. I went out and drove the eight this morning for a few hours and now I'm magically feeling better. My rotary is running on the blood of christ or some ****... lets see your s2000 do that.

I'm sure you aren't as obsessive as me! When I get to work I take a picture of my car and the cars on either side and in front, doing my best to make sure the license plate is readable in the pictures. I then write down the plate numbers and type and color of each car for my records. That way, in case I find anything that has happened to my car such as door dings I have a very good chance of knowing who it was that did it. This works out pretty well since it is employee parking only and the cars there when I first park either leave within about 10 minutes (which I spend sitting in the car waiting) or they are there the same length of time I am. I usually luck out and they were part of an earlier shift so they leave shortly after I get there and Bella gets to sit all by herself.

 

Just ding em back with a one of those safety glass hammers... an eye for an eye.
