why is this happening?

A couple of times when i have put the car in reverse and started letting up the clutch and giving the car gas i have gotten a sound that sounds like the gear is grinding.

I immediately put the clutch back in and try again...

Any ideas? I am new to driving stick. Could I be doing something wrong?

Please help... I am worried about my car as I feel as if I am abusing her.

it's because you didn't put it all the way into gear. You only did it half way.

I've done that about three times now. Just make sure to push down, and pull it all the way. It's sometimes hard to tell since reverse isn't used that much.

I've never had a problem with this until the last few days. Maybe I need to push it in gear harder......

I have had it happen once or twice and so has my wife. After it happens you are careful for a while, but then you get lax after a month or two and don't fully engage reverse. Hopefully its not doing to much damage.
