I actually get 18mpg in city and 25mpg on the highway. I have 20k miles on my car and it has been that way since mile 1. For all the people out there that arent getting that... you do know that you have more than one gear right?

The 8 is heavier than the 7.

Put a Renny in an FD and you'll pick up a couple mpg. Put one in a 1st gen and you'll probably get close to 30mpg.

With gas prices increasing and what I get from what is stated, I calculate close to $10,000 extra assuming and average price of $4/gal.

At $4 a gallon and 20 MPG (thats what I get, mostly 75-80MPH highway) I would spend $20,000 on gas over 100,000 miles.

A Co-worker with a 350Z gets 22 MPG, same dirve and road. 100.000 miles he would spend about $18,000.

My wife's Mazda5 gets about 28 MPG same route. 100,000 miles in it would cost mid $14,000 with about a $5500 savings.

My neighbor's corvette gets an unbelieveable (yet honest) 24 MPG at 75 MPH according to the on board computer. He would spend $16,700 on gas.

Over 100,000 miles I figure I'll spend about $7500 on tires.
My co-worker will spend about $8200 on Tires.
My wife's car will cost about $1900 on tires.
My neighbor with the vette? OUCH. Figure $15000. Conservatively.

If you're getting 15 MPG in the 8, you won't do any better in the Z driving it the same way. Even with a Prius, heavy foot city driving will get less then 22.

The best one I know of is my son's 914. 38 MPG at 75 MPH. $10,500 for 100.000 miles. $1200 tire bill over 100,000 miles. No matter how hard he tries, he hasn't managed worse then 22 MPG.

Some people worry about gas mileage. I did when I drove a 13 MPG van. Once you get to about 20 MPG you just won't see that big of a difference for a car in the same class.

this thread kinda does suck....

rx8 vs rx7

engine is the same displacement.

but

rx7 has a taller overdrive and taller rear gears, @3200rpms the rx8 is doing what 62? @3200 the FD is doing 80ish. rx8 engine might be more efficient but its still spinning faster.

rx8 is also heavier.

in this situation the turbo is fairly neutral, theres a penalty in the exhaust, because you're spinning a turbine, but on the other end, the intake is better cause theres a compressor in there, even if its not making positive pressure.

also the epa testing or prolly different between 1991* and 2006....

*there were no usa market 1993 rx7's made in the calader year of 1993.
