reminder- please don't post street racing stories on here. DJFreon, I can't tell if you meant you raced the s2000 on a track or street, so we'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Forgive me for asking, and excuse my ignorance regarding this matter, but, why can't we discuss street racing experiences on this forum?

Thumbs up

The moderators just frown on it. And since the moderators run the show around here we have to respect their wishes.
There are obvious reasons that have to do with egos and bragging rights. Usually those kinds of threads just get out of hand.

Me too, had some guy in a pickup truck kept cutting me off, slowing down, BS. Don't know what I did to **** him off. So I just had to drop down to 2, redline and blow his doors. FUN! :D

Just tell them that if you wanted a fast car that is ugly and unreliable then you could have bought 2 of those Neons instead of your RX8 :D

Because as Slickvic says below, in pretty much every case, it turns into ugliness, insult slinging, and bragging, and brings no value to the forum. Maybe in the future, they'll be an unmoderated section where people can say/post whatever they want. Until then, however, it's just more trouble than it's worth.

This really has nothing to do with us, and everything to do with the owners of the board . The moderators have nothing to do with how the board is run, or the rules- we're just here to help out the admin.

I don't know if accellerating quickly on the street next to someone else counts as street racing. In this case I certainly was not racing though. I didn't want to even rev my car over 6K. I certainly wasn't trying to beat him. As I said later in my post, I save the real racing for the track where there's a big clock that tells everyone around who won, and who lost. But thanks for the heads up.

Hey yeah

Well this week was great - on the road that is.

I was challenged also by a Neon - a red one with a scooped hood. It was a late model so I assume it was one of the ones you mentioned. He did not leave my side for about 5 miles. Racing and revving. Traffic was moderate, didn't bother but it was amusing anyway. I hear they are fast cars.

Also this week a lightning truck did the same as the neon - not as long but just the same.

I was the first RX delivered in our county back in July. I am now finally starting to see others about. Saw a green one, a blue one, and a black one just this week.

All in one week on the road!

BMW E30 (previous generation) 328. Not a race, just a gentile probing on the 9th Street chute under the mall, out of D.C. Boys will be boys. Was glad I had the CZ.

Oops, guys wanna race already now. I just drive a 9 year old, grey MX6 2.5. Fear I get a lot of attention when I get my red 8 next month!

I got the same thing all the time when I had my RX-7. Pickups, SUVs, FWD sedans, (almost always domestics) all acted like they had something to prove. My favorite way to deal with it, especially if they are tailgaiting me, was simply to not slow down for curves. :D My favorite spot was on the way to work where there was a road that went slightly downhill for a few blocks, immeadiately followed by a 90 degree turn. There were multiple occasions when some tool almost understeered his big truck into the trees while trying to show a much faster car what a tough guy he was. Fun times.

This is strange. When I had my Evo, the only things that tried to take me were things like pickup trucks and family sedan type cars (at least one Accord that rode my tail as if I cut him off and he was trying to annoy me). In my RX-8 I have had a pickup truck try me. Seen plenty of Mustangs with no drama. This SRT-4 thing is interesting though, but I guess I don't see them frequently enough to have those kinds of experiences.

That reminds me of an time when a Geo Metro(!) tried racing my RX-7. The guy was driving like 2 under the speed limit on a semi-twisty back road on a nice summers day. I didn't want him to spoil my drive so I passed the guy. Funny thing was that when I was passing him he began to speed up like he thought he could block me with his Metro. This really pissed me off because it delayed my passing time and I was coming up on a blind hill. There was a car coming, but luckaly I avoided it. But it wasn't enough for that guy to almost put me into a head on collision, he had to tailgate me then. I could have lost the car easily, but I didn't want to speed to much. So eventually I took a sharp downhill turn that was posted 35mph going about 65mph. When I got out of the turn I looked into the rearview miror and saw the Metro loosing speed fast 3/4 the way into the other lane with so much body roll I thought the thing was going to tip!

Yes, out here there are quite a few trucks than want to race, but of course I didn't. I seem to notice that people around me are going faster when i drive the rx8. It just may be the speedometer though, If it says 75 in my Toyota I might really be going faster then when my 8 says it is going 75.

One of my coworkers has a Viper. He says that a lot of things try to race him. He doesn't though, just saves it for the track. He said he just laughs when 5mi later down the road he sees the "racer" pulled over by a cop

Man where do you guys live, the first day i got it, seriously this happened in 5 minutes. First there was an S2000, then a Z4, and then this lightning goes blowin by me and slows down so i would race. But i had to break it in so i dissapointed them. After that i only had a motorcycle a bmw and a hot porsche that didn't pull away from my 8. Anyway racing is bad don't do it

Simple solution if you dont want to race dont........ If you want to do it just dont be stupid. Dont race from a stop or you will get spanked. Try the track only once and you will have almost no urge to street race because the experience will not be as fufilling as a true track experience.

We have an awsome car and there is no reason to belittle anyone elses car when many of them are great cars as well. Sure some people are ****** but most of these responses are the reasons why the all the other communities think we are all snobish and rude.

You see a ***** on the street on a gangster lean looking at you like whats up homie? Well i usually give him a thumbs up because the best way to avoid stupidity is to confront it. I just keep chugging along the road and i usually get a thumbs up as well. If they are ****** after you acknowledge your not racing then deal with that as it comes.

I just think this SRT 4 pos smack talking is just stupid the reason why people come up and rev is because your car caught their eye and they think ooh damn theres an RX8 I wonder how i would do or if i can beat it? Then if the driver of the RX8 is a snobish ***** hell id give em hell too.

Just my 2cp

I do have to admit however I have done hercs method of reving back then taking off normally lol that is fun. The guy slowed down revved again but i just shook my head "no" and tried to erk me a couple more times then he took off.

PS: I just smoked a civic the other day!!! He came up to me and revved and I SMMMMMMMMMMMoked him like a pos that he is !!!!!

jk Elara :D

Not woth the Ticket

I had the bad experience, when I was in the service and got stopped racing, by the VA state Police- That was years ago- grown wiser- now I have fun at the track, safer, way more interesting, and it's even legal. In many states- you could wind up driving on your library card, if you got caught- The RX-8- has nothing to prove, how many Porsches do you really see racing!

here's why

at least what i reckon...

those dudes KNOW youve got a nicer car. they need a way to feel better about themselves. sure, they might be able to beat you, but in the end, you've got the rx8 so you're the winner.

look at it this way, someone with a 10s r34 skyline rocks up next to a ferrari 575 maranello and smokes him... yeah whatever, the dude in the 575's still gonna be driving home saying "pffft, sif i care... im still here sitting here in THIS"

speed isnt everything. there are somethings you CANT mod your car to radiate... class... style... always

ross

ps - someone tell me if they reckon im an idiot

Nah, it appears you have more sense than a good majority of the common populace. I agree with your post completely.
