Why do people hate the rx-8 SO much?
#26
Seriously.. FML..
I was going home from work last night and was caught in traffic, put my windows down and some guy screams at me "Hey, that is the most beautiful car I've ever seen!" He asked what kind of car it was and that I must be rich to drive a car like that. He seemed drunk.. But hey, honesty does come out when your drunk.

I COME IN PEACE
You said it best.... Acouple of my friends have 8's and those thing handle like your wouldnt believe.. Actually most of my friends are 8 owners... To me alot of 7 owners only care about the power and 1/4 mile times. Not too many of them are friendly to the overall rotary communiy.
The reality is,
it was hard to follow up after having a 250hp twin turbo car. But the Rx was always a track car. not really quarter mile. And to me they captured that with a 8.
So when some people have a rx7 with 400whp. Ive never seen any other 4 door and 4 passenger car keep up as well as 8's do...
So with that said i tip my hat to you 8 owners for putting up with all the **** people talk just because something is different

I posted about my new car on a humor forum i post at frequently and this is what a few had to say:
"i like mazda but rx-8s are kind of lame and not very quick at all..."
"**** yeah. rx 7's are dope as **** and great cars for sport. rx-8 are like the cheap gay version that any regular douche can drive and act like he's cool when he runs a 16"
In all seriousness.

Funny, if the RX-8 had the prestige and exclusivity of a Lotus badge, popular opinion would probably be much different. Neither the Elise nor Exige are power machines, but they possess many of the same characteristics of our beloved 8s. The definition of "sports car", that being an incredibly agile driver's car with a comparable power to weight ratio, seems to have been lost on most people.
--New owner, by the way. I've had my Nordic Green GT 6MT for 3 months now, and it's everything I've ever wanted in a car. Simply, I just can't drive it enough.

Yeah actually the Exige S beats the 8 in power department, it's a second quicker to 60 and at least a second quicker in the 1/4 and handles like a go cart. But definitely not comparable as a DD to the 8. Ever drive one? No way I could do it daily.

I had the opportunity to drive an Elise sitting on a Chevy lot while Corvette shopping with my dad back in the summer. Amazingly fun little car, but yeah, I couldn't do it on a daily basis, or especially over a long trip. At 6'2 I couldn't even work the clutch without my left knee rubbing the wheel or intercepting my hand during a turn.

i love the 8 because it looks like nothing else on the road. when i was in the market for a new car, i didnt want something common - something you see on a daily basis. I get a ton of compliments on the car everywhere i go (especially at gas stations). One time in particular comes to mind, i was on downtown at the bars on thirsty thursday driving right behind a brand new camaro SS and believe it or not (i was pretty surprised), i got way more looks then the camaro. And many times, ive gone out to the parking lot and seen people near my car just admiring it. It is definitely unique. And how many people can say their cars have stock suicide doors?

I traded my 4x4 Dodge Ram for my 8. I was tired of always driving a truck and decided I wanted something fun to drive. Honestly, I was thinking of something FWD just because of the snow we get here.
A couple of guys I work with (a GTO and a Firebird guy) were telling me that if it wasn't an American V8 car, it couldn't be fun to drive. About the only V8 car I like right now is a Pontiac G8 (I know it's basically a 4 door GTO). My wife had a Mustang GT and I drove it alot, I knew I didn't want one, or a Camaro, or a Firebird, or a GTO. I prefer the smaller 4 and 6 cyl. cars, I just like how they are so quiet and smooth. We've also had (mainly the wife's DD'ers) a 6 cyl. Crysler Sebring, Mazda 3 and currently have a CX7, I consider all of those cars "fun to drive".
Anyway the first car I was interested in happened to be a Pontiac G6. I drove several 2 door GT's but wasn't really impressed with the power and really wanted a MT. So I went to look at and drive an '06 G6 GTP. That car had some good power and was a MT, was in really good condition, and I loved the looks of the car. But in my short test drive I noticed that it just wasn't comfortable to me, I didn't know if it was the foot controls, ergonomics or what but there was something I didn't like. To wrap up this story, I came home and started researching that car and came to find that most people hated the GTP because of the MT controls and ergos, saying it was a chore to drive it every day. That was the end of that.
Then I started looking at RX8's, I've always liked them but didn't really know anything about them other than they had rotary engines. After researching them here I figured it would be ok in the snow with a sandbag in the back and some snow tires. The search was on and after driving one, if you've read the rest of this post, you know why I bought one.

Well I love the 8 I'm in the process of buying my second one. I sold the first one in 06. Cause I wanted mnore power. So I sold it for a 350z the biggest mistake of my life. It may not b the fastest car but sure is one of the best handling cars money can buy

I don’t think that most people hate our car, I think most people claim to hate our car. A quick story;
Last spring I went to Midwest Mazdafest in Indianapolis with a bunch of local Mazdafolk. They all drive MS3’s, and all I hear from them is “blah, blah, not fast enough blah” or “when are you going to turbo that thing so you can keep up with us” or some other silly comment. Don’t get me wrong I like the group, and all of them are fun to spend time with, but the monotonous “too slow” comments were beginning to ware on me.
At the end of the day we were all heading off to the hotel we were staying in so I went to get my car from the RX8 area to meet them in the MS3 area where we were all standing around. Off I went and when I got back we all headed to the Hotel. My 12 year old daughter was sitting there the whole time and overheard the conversation while I was gone. It basically went like this “man I love that car (RX8).” with a few variations.
Next time you have someone hating on your car, ask them if they want to take it for a spin. I think you will find that they change their mind right when they think they will be driving it. I don’t let many people drive my car, but if I did, I think it would change a lot of minds.
