how long does the vehicle stay in safe mode after the CEL comes on? It happened to me today and manually reset ECU by unplugging battery it went away, but what if I didnt do the reset how long would it take for the car to get back to normal mode?

Happened to me also the other night. I red lined it twice in a row and the 2nd time the flashing CEL came on. Throttled back and it when away after about 20 secs, when it came on I could hear and feel the engine misfiring. It's been fine ever since.

Anyone (zoom44? <g>) know which codes only flash the CEL and which latch it on?
Obviously misfire, but just wondering about others...

Well over 100 eh?
found out the speed the other day....been either too busy to post, or forgetful .

the magic number for speed at 8k rpms in 4th gear is 110Mph....takes you to ~5500rpm in 6th gear

FYI...there are different types of codes...some set a hard code right away......they are more severe errors

Others set a pending code...that has to be repeated in the same drive cycle as the original to set a hard code.

Other codes have to be repeated in two succesive drive cycles to show up

Get confusing ..........

There are a limited number of issues that "flash" the CEL.

Mis-fire and Convertor problems are two that come to mind.

A loose fuel cap will never cause the CEL to flash.

i was driving down the highway in 6th at about 80 mph, prolly bout 79 degrees outside and humid, AC off, windows up, stereo at about 20.. CEL flashed at me about 5x, I changed lanes, started to slow down to get off the highway and it stopped... so I started accelerating back up to 80mph and it didn't come back on..
on my way home it didn't come on again either..
I guess i'll take it to the dealer tomorrow and have them look. I had just gotten gas, but snap-on says a loose fuel cap will never cause it to flash, and i'd believe him on that one :b
I checked the cap anyway and it was clicked in like it usually is..
it's weird.. car drove normally..

My car did the CEL blink/loss of power for about 30 seconds right near the end of a long sweeper where I was on the gas. I checked my air filter and found it was covered in oil. I took the intake apart and found oil EVERYWHERE, including the bottom part of the MAF. I soaked up the oil and cleaned the MAF and it's been fine ever since.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to install an oil catch can so this doesn't happen again.

Welp, just got mine back. It was a misfire.
They replaced my spark plugs, battery, starter and reflashed the ECU.. course I also told them it was having trouble starting (and it was).
