why the big stink?

Before my writings i just want to say i am a very happy owner of an rx8. I love everything about it. i was just wondering why there is such a big stink about how well the car handles. I mean don't get me wrong it handles great in its stock form but not that great. Most of us on here would say we didn't buy an 8 for its straight line performance and then go on to sing it praises that we bought it soully for its handling. For our price range then why not go for a used evo, sti, cobalt SS, S2000, M3, 350z and the list gos on. Those cars constantly kick our *** it seems. They all post better skidpad numbers and similar if not faster lap times. With this being said maybe i am wrong and i'm sure i will hear it.....lol.....if i am. Just trying to make a point. As Dr. *** once said.........discuss.

Thank goodness that we are all not forced to choose from ONE car.

I think I'd look quite nice in a new Ferrari California.

....discuss.

The point I'm making is that this is a circular conversation that has been round more than once.

People choose cars for various reasons.

Evo's and STI's are ugly (not so much ugly as lacking class. Try parking an evo next to your CEO's m5 and you'll see what i mean)
Cobalt is a Chevy (you wanna hang out with rednecks?)
S2k is a Honda (you wanna hang out with ricers?)
M3 is a BMW (you want to hang out with investment bankers and play golf?) ,
The Z is a Nike sneaker (for footballers and body builders).

They ALL have pistons too.

I think that answers the question completely. Don't you?

Discuss what? You want another car more than the 8 then? Go buy one. This car is for handling which is way better than the way you say it is and for the enjoyment of the car. Who gives a damn about driving in a straight line doing 90mph? I drive the car because it rides great with little to no vibration (no pistons), handles great so if I feel like taking a corner doing 40 I wont be regretting it, and has a great interior seating 4 and looking sophisticated.

I bought my car cause I wanted a rotary, RX7 are more troublesome and harder to come by around here, at least ones that aren't plagued with problems. I wanted a car that revved to 9k rpm. I didn't want a two seater, or an ugly rag top.

And would like you to find me a decent M3, EVO, or STi at the same price I paid for my 8. I would like it with low miles and unmolested. 05 and up only.

It's just completely different..

Have you driven your RX8 on an actual race track? The RX8 has been a dominating car within the stock autocross classes because of the handling capability from the factory.

First, I'd throw the M3 right out of that listing because unless you can pick up a new one for $26,000 to $30,000 it's not in the same price bracket.

The primary response I have is the RX8's connection to the drive along with it's handling capability. The car has a means of communicating with the driver about the condition of the suspension and gives you ample feedback as to what's happening.

The RX8 provides performance and enjoyment! The EVO and slightly used STI's are very rigid box cars. They have simple interiors, no comforts what so ever and they beat the hell out of you during normal street driving. The EVO is a great track car, but beyond that it's very harsh.

The 350z puts down similar numbers but with more weight and a heavier feel during cornering as well as a higher price tag...not to mention they are a dime a dozen as I see them everywhere!

It's all about compromise. The RX8 gives you IMO the best combination of handling, daily driver use (trunk space, back seats etc) and style for the money.

The new turbo charged cobalts have impressive numbers but getting excited over wrong wheel drive isn't something I'll be doing.

more cowbell indeed............like i said just wanted some input. With all that being said i read an article in car and driver about if its not broke don't fix it, referring to the 8. Will doing suspension mods really effect the 8 in a negative way. I realize making a car as stiff as possible does not mean it will handle great. How do you find a compromise without spending tons of money trying every setup out there. I realize in trying to research this that most people have only tried one or two setups and don't have much input other than that. I checked some threads on here and most of the information will go like hey what setup do you recommend? Response: "teins they are the best." that really dosen't help but if anyone knows a certain thread to read please send me a link. thanks. discuss.

1. Sure if you buy cheap products and or you do not purchase the correct part for what you are trying to achieve.

2. Yep. Make it too stiff and you will spin out very easily.

3. Read. Research. Talk to people. Take a driving class. Find out what your car can do and make the adjustments to fit your needs.
