Finally broke 21 mpg! After three round trips to VA beach I finally got decent mpg's.

21.192 MPG

My average is up to just over 19 mpg!

Gas at the service station here on Ft. Eustis jumped 6 cents a gallon! 89 octane is up to $1.79 a gallon Damn!

 

Good for you.... we are happy to know the Mazda RX-8 gives the gas mileage it is suppose too... Mileage on 8 ?

 

If you use a higher octane you should see better resuts.

 

yeah ... if you use 1000 octane you get 100+mpg .... go ahead ... try and prove me wrong :-)

You might have gotten 21mpg over the weekend, but I bet I had a *LOT* more fun getting 8 mpg on Sunday at the track!!!

Yup I'm sure I would. Glad you had a great time. I tried the higher octane and there was no change in milage just a larger dent in the pocket book!

 

Yeah, what mileage do you now have? I just broke 3500 miles and my mileage is def. improving. I started at about 19mpg and now I am getting about 22.6 mpg.

Nope. Strictly city. I had to make three trips to VA beach via highway in the past three days so that is why it is so high.

Lucky you, I havent gotten past 16 yet.

 

The car likes to run hard. I was consistently hitting the fuel light at 200-210 miles for the first 1800 miles. Finally had a chance to do some extended high-speed running. I'm at 240 miles and still have a bit to go before the light will be coming on (usually comes on at about 13 1/2 gallons.). So far my conclusion is the efficient range may be somewhere in the 95+ mph zone :p

21 mpg on a rotary?? how fast are you on the 1/4 and do you still have warranty to replace your future defunct overheating motor??

 

higher octane doesn't improve gas mileage as well... the points rated on gasoline regards only their detonating threshold

 

For the 1st 10,000 miles I used 93 octane and averaged 21.16 mpg.

I now have 14,000 miles and have used 87 octane these last 4,000 miles, and now average 21.68 mpg.

80% highway, and I do not baby my baby.

My results after 17000 miles:

87 octane: 19-20MPG
89 octane: 19-20MPG
93 octane: 19-20MPG

 

n/a rotaries aren't sesitive on what type of octane used!

I just finished my second tank since the M flash 19.99 mpg in mixed driving. Before the flash I got 16.5 to 16.9 now I get 19.2 to 19.99. I didn't get it for the mileage but I am very satisfied with the way it runs now and with the mileage. I bet I can get 26 mpg on a trip (i got 24.2 before).

 

I'm starting to believe that I didn't get the M flash even though the papers at the dealer suggest otherwise. I didn't see the diagnostic printout though...
I do get the 20 brake press oil needle sweep (any chance this was there before the L revision?), but my mileage between before and afterwards is pretty much unchanged (rather a bit lower now than before) in the mid to high 18 mpg with mostly highway driving, and I don't feel the car different

 

When I first got mine two months ago the first couple of tanks were 14 MPG. Now I'm getting 17 - 19 MPG. Most of this driving is commuter and city. I think the key is the oil. I check it twice a week and no matter how little it needs, it gets it.

I've been using mid grade and can't tell a difference from the high grade.

It's too bad that my Cobra get's better gas mileage - 21 MPG.

 

I now have 7150 miles and still haven't broken 20 mpg. My best tank averages have been high 19's on mostly highway driving. Most tanks I see between 15-17 mpg in mostly short trip driving. As has been stated already, octane makes no difference.
