who engineered the sunglass holder?

What genuis had the idea to incorporate a sunglass holder into the '8, but make it so small in volume that only women's thin frame reading glasses could fit?

I recently acquired my first '8 and today I cleaned it up and went to put some of my stuff in it, and found that my (fairly thin/small) glasses wouldn't come close to fitting. Makes me wonder why they even bothered.

By the way, the difference between the rx7club and this forum is startling. General tech posts on the 7 club refer to "how to turbo my n/a rx7", "engine overheating", and "engine won't start". Items being bought and sold are engine internals, turbo kits, and standalone computers.

Here, the general tech posts are more along the lines of "rx8 makes a funny noise while driving" or "how fast does your '8 get to 140mph". The WTB/FS posts are about navigation add-ons, body kits and trim, wheels and catbacks. You guys do not know how easy you have it. lol.

My sunglasses fit perfectly. I don't see a pair not fitting unless you are pretty big or are sporting stunna shades

Thats because our aftermarket is pretty young, has nothing to do with the owners. Most of the true old schoolers are here.

hmm, all my glasses fit in the holder just fine.

And welcome to the Club, Kevin.

Its because most of the owners here don't have a clue on how to work on their car, and take it to the dealer and then bitch about it.

Also the average age of an '8 owner is 10-15 years older than the average '7 owner.

Which ones do you have, post a pic. I've been looking for a good pair of glasses but the Oakley's haven't really thrilled me a whole lot.

Interesting thread!!!

When I bought my 8 it came w/ a sissy blue pair of shades still in the holder. ummmm - blue lenses ... not good for driving I think.

I never bought expensive sunglasses before ... but I may consider now. My current "driving sunglasses" are big plastic ones that have good lenses (IMHO) .. but need to reside in the center console.

Any good recommendations on reasonably priced ... good driving lenses that fit in the holder?

Otherwise I may just use the sunglasses holder for breath mints.

.

Well I have never seen any sunglasses the would even come close to fitting - really dumb . Luckily the rest of the car makes up for that little design debacle .

The holder does not help my glasses, I just put them in the door compartment.

I've tried several pair of sunglasses of mine and friends and they all fit!

You have to put them in upside down with the lenses facing toward the front of the car. When you put them in like that you will feel them drop down and slide a bit forward.

My Oakley A-wire sunglasses don't fit in the holder. When not in use, I just put them back in the Oakley zip case made of ballistic nylon and throw the whole thing in the glove compartment. I use the front cup holders as a coin holder as well. No eating or drinking is allowed in my car.

my shades fit fine... but then again i'm only 5'6" and my head isn't that big, so my shades aren't that big. the push-button open/ close mechanism is a bit tempermental i've noticed. my bigger peeve is that you can't use the armrest & cupholders at the same time...

Mine fit, but it would be better if it was deeper.
Now let's talk about those damn sun visors with holes in them.

I did some research and I found an old picture of RR that may explain his problem:

At first mine didn't fit. Then I put them in with the lenses in last and it fits nicely.

I have an older model Oakley that doesn't fit (XX, silver w/blue lens). Here's a link to the latest XX model:

http://oakley.com/pd/1138

I got them bcause I liked the style and the blue lens matched my stormy blue 8.

Stormy Blue rocks!!!!
