just because you dont want to mod your car doesnt mean others shouldnt. car modding is a hobby ya know.

The gauges look great and they are very easy to view in the sun or at night. Not sure why the complaints.......

Anyway, adding the 10 yellow APC stickers WILL give you 50 more HP. Invest now! haha

Modding a car allows someone to make the car unique and shows a bit of the drives personality. Its another way to express yourself

I agree 100% :D ....just I don't mod for looks too much. I'll add subtle things(clear corners, rotary accents, UK spoiler, etc.) I'll mod for performance. I'm all set with these heavy bodykits that just take away from performance(as small as it may be). I'll make it go faster, stop better, turn better, before I tack on a bodykit, stereo, or bling wheels.

That's just me....those guys with bodykits and stuff, hey, you like your ride, then rock on man.

I strongly encourage everyone to do whatever they want with their own car. After signing off, we will quickly forget about whatever you've done to it. You're the one who drives it. Enjoy it.

Rock On....

When I originally posted the question about the white gauges I didn't know this subject would be so controversial. I just wanted to see what they would look like, if available.

Did someone say they wanted to get white-face gauges for their RX-8? That is worse than my gold headlamp idea (I lied. Nothing is cooler than my idea ). The gauges are so cool, especially at night, why change them? That is like removing my eyeball or something...

mmm blue, I love blue. I'd like to substitute blue lights for all the red lights in the car.

Like Rotary Nut stated.... The cockpit of the F/A-18 in fact, uses green lights when the pilots are using their night vision goggles.

As for me the maintainer, when it was pitch black out in the middle of the Med on the deck of an aircraft carrier, the only lights that are on in the cockpit are the green ones, you can see every gauge just fine. :D But when I would kick both engines into After Burner that kinda defeated the purpose. :D

As for the 8's dash lights? Man, I wouldn't want them any other way. Especially since ours is the VelRed with Red/Black Leather.

I have mixed opinions about the RX-8 gauges. I think the look real cool, but are not as functional as they could be. I liked the gauges better in my RX-7 twin turbo. Best gauges in any car I had. They were a classic black on white in the day (non illumimated) & red on black when you put the lights on. It had an analog speedmeter also.

Although the RX-8 gauges look neat, I think it is very easy to forget to turn them on at night. The highly illuminated lights off position gives the impression the lights are on.

I also don't like the way I need to set the illumnation to brightest in the day time then to dimmer at night.

A small analog speedmeter would be nice (Digital takes longer to read at a glance), but I have gotten used to using the combination of digital speedmeter & tach.

I am sure I would never replace the gauges though.

No one is ever going to convince me that a modded car looks classier than a stock car unless something is removed, and not added. Adding crap busies up the design. Debadging is about the only exterior mod that doesn't look crass. An interesting thing that some Europeans do is take the displacement badges off of their cars, for example the "330Ci" on a big engined 3 series coupe - when they have the bigger engines and more expensive trim levels - so as to not differentiate their models from the less expensive ones, like a 320Ci. That's pretty classy in my book.

Back to the gauges, why waste your time and money on the gauges? I just don't get it.

BTW, modded cars generally have lower resale value than stock vehicles.

But, that's an intrinsic problem with an enthusiast web site. Some folks buy a new car they like and then want to change it around. Others find the car they like so they don't have to change anything on it. Let's remember that the classic definition of a sports car is a low slung car with nothing on it that doesn't make it go faster.

I'll admit that I wish the car had slightly different, smoother more integrated sheet metal at the front fender/body junction instead of the pontoon fenders. I wish the rear quarter windows didn't have the reverse taper at the rear edge and looked more like a traditional quarter window. I know, Mazda did this on purpose to quote the original RX-7 greenhouse. (I owned one of those too.) I wish the tailights weren't so busy, and looked more like the classic Ferrari two circular lights type deal. And you know what, I'm not going to take the car to a body shop to get this stuff fixed.

The reason I come to this site is to get info on the car, vis a vis manufacturing issues, reliability, recalls, etc, and discuss driving, owning, and otherwise enjoying the vehicle.

Sure, it's your money and your car, and this is a free country, so do what you want. I'll just suggest that buying a new car and then replacing a bunch of its stock parts with aftermarket stuff is a great way to waste your money and time and lower the resale value of the car. Additionally, pulling apart the dash and then replacing the stock parts with aftermarket sounds like a recipe for rattles and less than factory quality reassembly.

Hypocrisy check: Yeah, I know my sig sez "maybe clear corners..." - but I'm still bone stock

I'm with you Rotary787!

:D

Plus, I’d really like to see added (as an optional if it can’t be standard) a complete fully functional gage display pack that clearly and accurately shows the normal and abnormal state of things with regards to: engine temperature, voltage/battery (Hey Mazda, there's room right now for a voltage/battery gage that will fit tastefully in the dash by the oil temp gage ...and as of now it's IMHO sorely missing) and oil pressure with an analog speedometer (or some kind of digital indicator that replaces the swing of the needle- maybe some kind of horizontal bar graph underor above the digital speedometer readout screen or else a digital light ring around the edge of the tach gage)!

Was that from the RX-evolve or the first concept/pre-production RX-8?

I actually like how the gages are set up now, on the real RX-8, than compared to what we saw at the auto shows way back when ... we just need more gages!

Well one sticker equals five HP then the larger the sticker means more torque!
