I'm not sure how many of you are planning on riding the 8 down to its last breath, but for those of you who are, have you considered keeping the car and putting in a fresh Renesis? Keep in mind that in just a couple years this engine is going to be dirt cheap to purchase.

(Don't mind me...this was just another one of the many thoughts that popped into my head tonight on my lonely way home after failing to get any.)

Don't you think that at that point the cost and hassle of doing such a thing would be worth more than the car itself? And don't you think that Mazda will have something new and improved by that time as well? We're talking about 8-years down the road for most 8 owners if they are doing about 15k miles per year.

No I don't think it would be a hassle if you truly loved this car. You haven't owned yours long enough to understand.

I'm keeping Bella until the day I die!!! I don't care if I have to put a lot into her eventually. She stills stays. I will probably acquire other vehicles but will never give up Bella.

By the way, there are already some owners on here well past 60k miles, and they've only owned the car 3 years. I'd be at close to 60k now if you added the miles on the automatic I swapped..

i would personally get the turbo charged version of the renesis that mazda is gonna have byt the time i hit that many miles, if they dont then a FD engine twin turbo and intercooled would do just as good.

I must say this is a rather interesting question...im curious as well to find how many would actaully do the transplant or how many would sign off.

As I sit now, I'd consider it, although its not a sure thing. Out-of-warranty, it might be a little pricey to drop another in, i'd imagine. However, I haven't had the 8 near long enough to really give an honest opinion.

This question really will bring out the underlying truth about who the REAL 8 enthusiasts are!

I'm going to keep my car alive for as long as I can. I never thought I would say this but "I love this car and I'm going to keep it forever". I have had so many people young an old give me compliments on my ride. I love it. Cant wait to get a 7!

No way. I'm keeping the car as long as it continues to be the great car that it is. Surely another 6-8 years. But by the time the engine is ready to be replaced, I'm sure a lot of other things will be showing their age too; at that time I'll sadly let it go, and hopefully find something as wonderful to replace it.

I figure to keep this car as my daily driver and pick up an elise in a year. Assuming the cost comes down and is reasonable, I could see myself replacing the motor if necessary if the rest of the car is in good condition, which is should be. I actually expect this motor to go well over 100k though. My 83 had 150k miles before I got rid of it.

I'm definitely keeping this car. I hope to see many many more happy miles on my car (currently 52k) but when the engine goes I will rebuild or step up to a 20B. There will always be a rotary in my RX8!

I find this question very amusing, because if I needed a new engine I would view this as an opportunity, not just a need for a new engine....

The opportunity is there to replace it with another Renesis with a Greddy kit or some other kit if it becomes available. I plan on adding a turbo after a few years anyway, so such an occurrence would simply enable me to move forward with the plan...

I think most replacers who go with something else like an LS1 engine are really changing the character of the car. My plan is to turbocharge lightly... maybe 6 or 7 psi of boost, which from what I have read will get me maybe 50hp and should not put too much stress on the Renesis.

As it stands right now I'm keeping the 8.. only owned her for a few months now but we are attached for the next 6 years anyways. If/when it needs a engine replaced and depending on my finacial situation I'd definatly replace the engine. Hopefully by then the aftermarket will of solved and given us alot of what we want and it will be worth it in the long run.
That and I'm a Scorpio so I'm loyal regardless and my 8 is my baby so it goes without saying unless she betrays me I'm keeping her!

If/when the engine gives up, I'll probably buy whatever newest rotary Mazda has out.

I plan on keeping the 8 for a LONG time. If the renesis dies on me... I'll probably put in a 13B-REW instead of another Renesis.

If that's the case, then I guess this forum won't be very active anymore after 2010.

My friend in Italy always calls me Bella. My mom kept giving me a hard time about not having a name picked out for my car before I picked it up. I told her it needed to be a female name to go with the navigation voice but I wasn't sure until I had it for awhile what I thought it should be. Well, my friend decided I should call her Bella and was trying to convince me and my mom just kept referring to my car as Bella, so it stuck.
