When you are really angry don't slam the trunk lid

Was really pissed off the other day, got lost and was late, hate getting lost and being late. Anyway I had the trunk open and slammed the lid. The next day I see condensation inside the passenger's side taillight. Seems the corner of the lid punched a hole in the cover and cracked the **** out of it. So what was going to be window tinting is now going to be getting my taillight replaced (of course you can't just replace the cover on **** anymore).

So hopefully I learned my lesson and not be such a hot head or at least not to take it out on my beatuiful 8.

I share because I care, don't abuse your 8.

There is actually a TSB for this.
If you are even remotely inside the warranty period, Mazda may fix it.

The condensation is due to a big *** hole in the tailight that I put there, not going to be covered by warranty

Yes, I understand.
But the big *** hole is the result of you not having the vinyl pad that Mazda issued to keep the tail light from cracking.

that is impressive. i dont think the trunk lid should hit the tail light regardless of how hard you slam it though. you must be very strong

Sucks!
Never take out your anger on a loved one!

Mazda may cover it... worth asking. Don't tell them the story, just say it broke.

Get the MS spoiler and slamming it will result in the destruction of the entire rear valence!

did you close the trunk lid using the grab handle or just from the top of the lid itself? Speaking of the grab handle, what an awkward place it is located!

I'm afraid to let anyone close my trunk for that exact reason.

open your trunk and look at the inside passenger side, you will see a little plastic handle for closing the trunk.

no kidding? never even looked. sounds like a good way to hurt my hand. I'll stick w/grabbing the latch.

^I slip my finger in the crack. mmmmm . . . .

lol. Seriously, tho - right next to the tail light at the bottom corner, so I don't hit the paint of the trunk or the bumper.

Sweet! I am so going to try to use this. My app. is for 8:00am tomorrow and they were charging me $350 to fix it. If it works I so forgive your avatar(s) occasionally getting me in trouble at work.

Mine always pops all the way up, but for you I would recommend seeing a doctor. I hear they make pills for that.

I would go with dmc on this on though. just slip my fingers in the crack.

Should I try slipping my fingers in the crack before seeing a doctor?

I would say if they are going to charge you $350 for a new tail light get it somewhere else.

the TSB is only valid for early 2004 cars. Look at the VIN range... not even my car that was picked up in November 2003 qualifies (although I don't have this problem with mine).
The dealer might still fix it under warranty, but not based on this TSB as newer cars (like your 2006) should already have the new weatherstrip and the protective "stickers".
