Anybody know when they will stop making '04s? I may be 2 months away ( "soon" never comes, in case you didn't know... ) and am in fear that I will find myself between the '04 and '05 model years with limited selection and inflated prices.

Is there a gap between the shipping of '04s and '05s? Does it stop for a month or so?

 

We may see the '05s as early as next month. Remember, July was when the first '04s were taken delivery of.

Typically, though, when the new model year comes out the dealer will make some good deals on the previous model year to clear 'em out. I don't think you'll be in a bad position.

The '04s shipped in July because it was the first release year. Subsequent years will take longer... so expect a November time frame.

who cares. just buy the car and stop worrying about all the homo details.. 04, 05. same thing. still an rx8. just buy it!

 

I would care. Maybe there will be some small cosmetic changes as well so he would have a choice of 04 design vs. 05 design......

 

Actually, there isn't supposed to be any differences in the '05 and the '04...(except the bugs will be fixed already) The '05 won't come out until the end of December or early January... Buy the car, you won't regret it!

 

According to the dealers, '05 production is starting in August with delivery in the US 60-90 days after that. So, we should start seeing them earliest by October sometime.

 

What's the source for that claim? (I thing you're very wrong)

I understand that the '05s will start showing up on the dealer lots in September. I think they're in production already. The remaining '04s are already on dealer lots or on the boats coming over.

I don't care whether it's '05 or '04. My question is when will the supply of '04's stop? I'm worried that by the time I'm ready to buy, production will stop on the '04, and that there may not be new RX-8's coming in for a month or wahtever until the '05's arrive limiting my selection.

 

well ibfubar2000 one of our resident dealers, said that they had already begun placing their next MY stock allocation order and that they had ordered several whites. so if production runs in the same sequence as it did for the previous MY then Japan should start seeing new models in about a month or 2 followed by NA in sept and october then UK and Europe from November onward.

MY= Model Year since folks in different parts of the world count the Model year differently just put in your countries first and second MY in the appropriate place

 

I bought an '04 last Thursday that was built on June 2, 2004. So, as of 6/2, they were still building '04's.

 

Read my reply two up from your post - I'm quite certain that the '04 production is stopped already, and that '05s are started.

If you're that concerned about selection being limited - go to your dealer and order exactly what you want, 2 or 3 months before you want it.

I'll probably save my money (so I can make big $$ down payment), and hopefully they'll be cutting a hell of a deal to get the 04's gone.

 

They already are here. One of the dealer's by me is giving the DVD Nav system for nothing.
