CA Wheel lock keys stolen...

So...long story short, my Wheel lock keys were stolen from my car last night...along with my GPS....Question is...what do i do about the locks i have on my wheels now? Do i just ask the dealership to get me a new key? or buy an entire new wheel lock set all together??

How did they get into the car? Leave it unlocked or was it a smash and grab type job.... or were the professionals and picked the locked?

I'd be worried that they were planning to come back later and snag the wheels because now they know they have the key...

But yes, you can find the wheel lock key on ebay, I've seen some on the forums here, or last resort - the dealership.

I'd look into a set of locking lugs and a key so the bandits can't come back and snag your rare 40th anv. wheels.

I agree with Vyndictive. It sounds like they're planning to come back for the wheels - it's a strange thing for them to steal otherwise. Definitely get those locks replaced asap. Today, if at all possible.

Yea, if not. I would arrange for your car to spend the night inside someplace or leave it at work something... someplace where the homies won't know to look for it.

I think i might stop by the dealership after work to pick up an entire new set....I'm wondering, how are they going to get the old locks off? And are they going to charge me if they put on the new locks for me?

I would get the key, remove the wheel locks, sell them on ebay, and buy new wheel locks. I had to buy a key when I got my RX8 since the owner lost his. Call your local dealer and they will tell you who makes the wheel locks. What I did is took a good, detailed picture of my wheel locks and emailed McGuard, the company that made them for 2004 RX8's. They matched the pic with a key and for $20, the shipped it to me. Very simple and easy. Or, if you dont feel like spending any money, you can simpley break them off, just dont break a bolt.

I have a new set--never used--with key, registration card and even the plastic tie to attach the key to the lug wrench. I'll let you have them for $20.00 + $5.00 shipping. Finishlineperformance wants $32.50 + shipping. If interested, PM me.

Doen't make a difference.

Freeze the nut and wack it with a hammer.

If they want your wheels they are going to get them.

Besides if your talking about the Mazda dealership then nobody wants stock wheels anyway.

Let them steal them and buy some nice aftermarket wheels.

He's exactly right.

When the gator grip wrench was introduced, lock lugs became obsolete. Just keep an eye on her best you can.

to get the locks off take a socket that is a VERY SMALL bit smaller than the lug nut and hammer it onto the lock witha hammer then just use a ratchet toget the nut off....very simple 2 minute max per wheel...

Also replace the set asap.....u actually prob can go to ur local auto parts store and get an aftermarket set!

ahh... wheel locks...

Just enough to keep the neighborhood kids from taking them for shiits and giggles.

Nothing a set of THESE and a cordless impact wrench won't take care of in less than 20 seconds per wheel...

If you actually want wheel locks that work, you need to get a set that have an outer casing that can spin freely, like Gorilla Guard Locks. They're a helluva' lot more difficult to get off without a key, 'cause you've got to crush the outer sleeve down tight before you can get any grip on it, and even doing that is not likely... This will deter almost anyone, and'll frustrate the hell out of anybody that tries!!

If you are really worried, get a thick chain and run it through the spokes of each wheel. It will look like hell, but no one will take it. Might want to get some cloth or something to protect the rims from scratches/gouges from the chain.

(My Dad actually did this on a regular basis for his motorcycle )

Yep. There's a downside to everything... Then again, most of us don't have a spare tire, anyhoo, so having to remove the tire on our own isn't really an issue... It'd be the tire store's problem to take if off if you lost your key.

These are possible to get off; I've had to before on a truck. I ended up cutting off the whole dyam thing, but it took a while, and rotary cutters don't work 'cause the sleeve spins...gotta' use a torch. Takes a while, and have to replace the stud when you're done, too. I wasn't worried about fubar'ing the $30 rims, though. Not sure how nasty it'd be to get one off with aluminum rims.

(and before you ask... it wasn't the rims on that truck that were worth steeling; it was the tires that were $500 a pop.)

^y use a torch and replace the stud/ruin a wheel when a socket andratchet wil damage nothing(unless it's a cheap ratchet or socket)
