Wheel curb rashed

Hi everyone! My wife is the owner of a '04 rx8 she bought new. I'm just the guy that washes, waxes, cleans, does oil changes and puts it away for the winter. It's like it's my car accept for the driving part. Well, one week before I put it away for the winter some guy cut her off and she rubbed the curb with one wheel trying to avoid a collision. Scraped the outer edge of the wheel all the way around. This car was absolutely prestine (9000 miles on it), so i called the dealer for a price on a new rim. $505. You have to be kidding!!!!! Are there any companies out there that refinish stock rims? Do I hit up Ebay? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are a lot of companies out there that refinish wheels. I'm not sure what area you're in, but here in San Diego, the going rate is around $100 per wheel depending on what kind of damage. Given that, it might be cheaper to buy a new one, but definitely not from the dealer. Check the For Sale section. There's always someone selling a wheel or 2 or 4.

These guys are great: http://www.wheelcollision.com/ (Most people ship their wheels, if you're thinking they're too far.)

I have 2 complete sets of stock rims, each with different tires. I also have a 9th rim that I use as a replacement if/when one of the others suffers curb rash. So-far I've only had to do it once. I repair my own, having much experience with bodywork and booth painting. My only expenses are the paint itself and some wet-dry abrasive paper.

Look in the yellow pages for a company that does metal polishing. You will have to remove the tire but they will polish it out while you wait if it's not too bad.

Find someone who painst & get som metal epoxy putty. Have then strip the wheels, mix and apply the epoxy then, shape/sand & paint...It worked for me!

Here's a place with a good reputation:

http://www.whlworx.com/

They've got a page describing how the repairs work. They weld new material in, not just buff what's left.

If you want to try fixing it yourself, there's a thread in either the wheel forum or the show & shine forum - search "curb rash." That thread has a link to a widely cited DIY from a BMW forum, with Bondo used as the filler. Also some photos of a mediocre/ghetto repair I did on one of my wheels just using touch-up paint.
