whats the lightest model?
been playing with my 7s for a long *** time now and i think im ready to ditch my lexus for a funner car to drive.
i dont care about options or year. i would prefer a stripped base model but i just want to know if any of you know what model and year was the lightest produced?

lol you guys. the year doesnt really matter. (except 09)
the base didnt change any 04-08. just the name. who cares if its called sport or base.
get an 05+ model that has no dsc/tc and you are good to go. the dsc/tc button is to the left and down of the steering wheel. next to the dash light brightness wheel.

Nothing.
For the 2006-2008 models the "sport package" was something like $1,200 extra for xenon lights, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) w/ Traction Control System (TCS), and fog lights. It was optional and not included on the standard Sport model.
It looks like there is no more "sport package" for the 2009 Sport trim. You have to upgrade for the TCS and HID lights.

I think Regular size models are usually the lightest. Of course the shorter and skinnier they are the lighter they will be.
I would never go for a plus size model since well they are plus sized("overweight")
I think any model will ride great tho. Just needa break them in

For what it's worth, as I posted in another thread, Car and Driver says the '09 R3 weighs the same as the '07 Grand Touring they tested a while back, 3060 pounds.
So I assume the current Sport and Touring models weigh somewhere between that and the very first base models.

I'm new to the board but I don't think any model matters. The lightest model question should apply if you plan on racing a stripped down/gutted version in SCCA circuit courses and sponsered by major companys.
And imo of course the people on here who care about what model thier rx8 is only care for other people who care about what model thier rx8 is. The people who are really into the car could care less what model/trim you drove away in.
For example: If you were bragging about spending 34k on the new mugen civic Si 4 door I would probably laugh in your face for a couple seconds then offer to buy you lunch because you have $600 a month car payments.

Huge hole is huge
I went for my 07 Sport, mainly because it had a million more creature comforts than my RX-7, and is more reliable! WOO
On topic, the Sport/Base would be the lightest.

Most of the people I know don't even know what my car is yet alone how much it weights. Some of use still like to save money and weight by getting the base model. Hardly anyone here has a stripped down circuit racers, a lot of use have autox and road race cars with full interiors. Stripped out interiors usually put the car in a more competitive modified class.

04-06 MT Base model with sport package is the same as the 07-08 MT Sport model with the performance package. They just changed the name of the 'base' model and the sport/performance 'package', which for the MT only includes DSC/traction control, xenon headlights, and foglights.

Apples to oranges. The R3 would be heavier if it had the moon roof and power seats like the earlier GTs.
