I have read in a number of threads about how loud the RX8 sunroof is when open. I have to say of all the cars I have owned with sunroofs, and I have owned a few, this is the quietest one so far. Is it that my hearing really sucks, or that I just haven't owned the right cars with sunroofs, or are there many whiners?

 

I thought it was really quiet personally. I've been in a few other vehicles (mostly BMW's) that were all louder. I have noticed that it is quieter when you have the A/C on fresh air instead of recirculate.

 

No issues here with noise. Seems pretty tolerable to me.

 

Sounds Normal to me.

If some one thinks its too loud they could always tape down that bar in the front. This changes the wind noise

 

I thought that bar was a wind deflector. When I hold it down, the wind noise/turbulence increases.

 

i have the deflector on mine...when i took it off to wax the car I left it off and the sound increased a little but not nearly as loud as my 300ZX-TT with the T-Tops off,...

 

Can't be as loud as my TT with the top down! :D

The only time it even gets loud is when it is 1/3 to 2/3 open and there is a stiff crosswind. When its wide open and I am going under 70 I really dont think its loud at all... start hitting 80-90+ ranges and I usually close it .

i still don't understand why people would bitch about the smallest problems...sunroof too loud...well hot dam you bought a sports car..not a luxury car...now go for a ride in your 8 and enjoy the noise!!!!!!!

 

XDEEDUBBX I agree with you totally. I was really thinking after reading some posts, that the sunroof must be ungodly loud. I believe that it is anything but that. I also agree that there is a bunch of whining going on about an incredible car. I am now done ranting

 

Obviously, this is a subjective evaluation but I think we can close the issue around the sunroof of the 8 being loud. It is a sunroof that sounds no more or less "loud" than any other car I have had or been in with a sunroof.

The first gen was ear thumping without the little front flap you had to attach. That was a PIA but you had to do it otherwise it was like sitting inside a kettle drum.

The 8 has none of those issues. Get the sunroof.

Well this is also subjective, but my 95 Mazda 626 was much nosier with the moonroof open than my Rx-8. Though they seem about even if you have windows and the roof open, but of course its just dam noisy in that situation. Its been pretty windy around here lately too.

The only issue I've found noise-wise is the Bose midrange isn't too great, and so during open moonroof times its a little hard to hear without jacking the volume way up. But that is not much of an issue at that.

Gee, I must have been lucky with my '92 Prelude. There was a lot less wind noise in that car with the roof open than in my RX-8 (at speeds >= 50 km/h). I found it a bit annoying at first, but I wasn't about to give up the car over it.

 

I have the deflector, keeps the wind noise minimal and barely covers any of the opening. I think it looks good too!:D

The noise even before the deflector didn't bother me.
It wasn't nearly as bad as my "mitsucrappi" eclipse spyder!

If you don't like the noise, don't open it! :p

 

had an eagle talon 95' loud and turbulent

audi A4 98 a little noisy and but a little be window slid into the roof

acura RSX type S 2002 noisy above the roof style the faster i went the louder it got.

not really "tested" the 8 sunroof yet at any real speed. but in look really funny how high of an angle it slides to.
