That's not entirely true, my local porsche dealer just got a 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider that has a couple thousand miles and it's STILL selling for 20 grand OVER msrp. Depreciation does not really apply to high-end cars like these. If you actually could get an Enzo at msrp, you could sell it and retire on the profit (several hundred thousand dollars).

It doesn't matter what the Kelly Blue Book value says...
its what the owner wants... supra and rx-7 for instance even though the value on a 93 RX-7 & Supra are 10-14 K...

Its how rare the car is... RX-7's value is 10K.. but owners are getting easily 18-20 Grand off of them...

RX-8 is one hell of a car.. the value will stay up there... i saw it one consumer report or something the cars that will have the strongest reale value..

RX-8... acura tsx... infiniti g35... honda accord...and couple more..

around 30K miles you should be able to sell it for 21-25 G's...

Yeah; a Mazda dealer down here in Houston was selling his silver 94 FD with only 3k miles on the odo for $35K. And there were several offers--When I had my 93 FD I got it in 98 for about 22K with 48K miles on it. Had it until 80K miles--then lost it in a flood. They had forecasted the G35 Coupe to be worth 20K in 2 years--however the way Infiniti dealers are gouging customers with markups on these cars--I'm hardpressed to see that happening soon.

Mazda is offering 25 grand to take back their POS RX8. Payoff is 31grand.

They said that they were able to sell a silver GT fully loaded w/ accessories and navi for $29k. It had 5k miles on it. He told me that they would 1k extra to cars with navi.

I feel for some of you guys who claim to be keeping the 8 indefinitely. There's no telling how much better the car will get in a couple years. I assume half of you will probably try to trade it in as soon as a boosted version comes out. Oh by the way, I will keep my FD till I die. Ha ha ha!!! LOL

Yeah, the silver one was sold very quickly- and it was $29,998- so really $30k. They're asking about the same for yours though. Haven't checked since last week, so I don't know if it's still there or not.

My car has 4000 miles on it. I stopped driving it. I need to drive something reliable. I guess its in so called excellent condition. Ive made a complaint on the nhsta? website and our lawyers have been notified. Looks like this will be the first and last time I buy a mazda and/or rotary.

That seems to be about the average. When I was trying to get rid of my 2002 VW Passat W8 after 12 months of very unreliable ownership (14 times in the shop-32 job orders-60 days out of service in 13 months). I tried like hell to trade that POS in on something more reliable. I paid $39450 for THE VW flagship (at the time) and was lucky to get $20300 - $21200 on trade. Thats almost a 50% depreciation in 12 months. I was finally able to get rid of it in a BBB arbitration and buyback deal.

What problems are you having, exactly? The only problems I can see you post is that your gas mileage isn't great (but similar to other peoples- even *I* get 15mpg when I'm driving in the city and having fun) and that you flooded, and your dealer made you pay, in which case you need to call mazda customer service, complain, and get back your money.

Agree. I think Mazda will follow up and see that you get refunded for the flood repair. See Got My Letter: Flooding Covered Under Warranty!

My letter from Mazda on the flooding issue said:

"any incidence of RX-8 flooding, whether it be dealer service or towing, will be covered uner Mazda New Vehicle Warranty (48months/50,000 miles). I apologize for any miscommunication between you and the dealer as dealers have been educated that the repair will always be covered by Mazda."

Wow, that's a $5k-$6k profit for them. Since the car was practically brand new, there was nothing for them to do.

Does carmax even negotiate on their cars? Also, how did you find out? Do their website show what cars they have in the inventory?

I brought it to the carmax in Duarte, CA.

Do you think your jumping the gun a little bit with that comment? You just like everyone else on the forum have to understand that you are taking a big gamble whenever you purchase a completely all new vehicle thats never been in production and doesn't have any "reliabilty" history. Every manufacture will have problems of some sort with their all new vehicles. Mazda is no exception. Lets not even bring up the Ford Focus when it first came out. Now even that car is pretty decent. Look at the 1993 3rd gen. It had all sorts of problems it's first year that were quickly fixed by the time the 94 modles rolled out. I currently drive a stock 94 Rx7. With 76k miles on the clock, my original engine is running perfectly even with it's stock vacuum lines.

I brought it to the carmax in Duarte, CA.

They still have to spend time cleaning, going over, and other stuff- but yes, that was still a big profit-more than they generally make on a vehicle. But then, with cars like that, they can ask it and someone will pay. The silver and your 8 have been the only 8's CarMax has had. The website lists all vehicles currently in their inventory, and CarMax is no-haggle, so no negotiating.

To add to your post Elara, car dealerships have to have that kind of cushion. 5k markup may seem like a lot but it quickly dimenishes once the negotiating begins. Also for those of you looking for a great deal if the dealer is only giving 24k for trade-in for Rieskame's Rx8, you can rest assure a really good regotiator will leave that dealer with a loaded low mileage Rx8 for about 25-26k. This is how you really get the best deals.

T-von, are you sure? I thought that CARMAX's whole deal was no negotiations, they have a set price.
