What is the worst thing you've done to your RX-8?

What worst thing you've done to your car and yet find it still working perfectly fine afterwards? I guess this thread could be a testament to the 8's durability.

Anyway, give us your stories.

probably running over two giant pieces of re-tread on the higway doing 85mph... funny enough that I was coming back from an RX8 club meeting in fort worth... it was night time and moderate traffic on the 820 loop... nothing I could really do but it... hitting the 1st one made me cringe and slow down as much as I could, and then as soon as I thought it was over along comes another piece. (this was SMACK in the middle of the highway too not on the side or anything)

I got home about 15 minutes later and feared seeing my front bumper/rotary accent/appearance package hanging on by a thread, or "something" being F'd up on the underbody.... oddly enough no scratches dents or weird things.

Lucky because I hit a raccoon doing a MUCH lower speed one night and it did 2K in damage.

lol jeff, I was thinking the same thing, the freeways are packed with so many random objects these days. I've also ran over some large pieces of tire tread the other day...I had no choice, and I was certain I damaged something. But there wasn't a single scratch, phew.

Seriously, I'm finding myself dodging junk on the highway every day.

Went to a race meeting (V8 supercars) & parked in a grass paddock . When I left a lagre rock must have hit someting on the undercarridge . By the time I stopped the rock had bashed & crashed its way the length of the car . On the way home the whole cabin had a strange echoing sound . Next day I found the sump, crossmembers ,exhaust & fuel tank sheilds were mangled badly. Traced the sound back to the xmember contacting that frame thingy that holds the transmission & diff together.

A K&N Typhoon intake.

Swiftly remedied, and I just pray it didn't offend the rotary Gods......

I hit tire debris on the hyw. No damage but lots of banging as it went under the car.
I grounded over a big speed bump. No damage but a really painful grinding sound as it hit, probably on the muffler.
I once parked in a Walmart parking lot but the car was not damaged.

My mom did that to my car when I first got it. I was not very happy. My step-uncle had come over to see my new car and also show off his new car. The phone was ringing so I went inside to get it. I heard my car start and then shut off. No flooding or anything.

DarkBrew, keep your baby away from Walmart!!

I have noticed there are tons of random objects in the road lately. There are tons of tire pieces that I've had to avoid lately. On Friday I was coming home from work on a day I don't usually work (mandatory overtime, yay! ) and I come around a curve on the highway (enough of one that you can't see what's around it) and there is a cabinet right in the middle of my lane that must have fallen off the back of somebodies truck. Fortunately there was nobody in the lane over from me so I could quick swerve to avoid it. Then I see shortly up the road is a mattress and a busted TV in the road and just passed that a pickup truck with its tailgate broken loose from the truck on the left side. Something must have slid and broke it. Two weeks before that (on the other side of a different highway) there was a broken shower stall in the road and a truck right near it and people in the road stopping traffic to clear it out of the way. Their tailgate was also mangled-looking and broken loose on one side. I wonder if they were the same brand of truck? I didn't see what they were. I can't believe how many things are in the road.

Last night on the way home there was broken lumber in the road. I swerved to avoid the piece I would have hit with my left tire and ended up clipping a smaller, more broken piece with my right tire but no damage or anything, just annoying. I also accidentally hit a squirrel on the way home out by my house (live in the country) A cat was chasing it around the road. At least I didn't hit the cat!

I took a corner at around 15mph and curbed my right rear wheel. Nothing was broken though....I think.

I don't see how you live. I have to stop myself from washing mine, I've limited myself to Fridays. I'm living in Golden, CO for the summer and between the afternoon rainstorms and dust my car stays clean for mabye a day after I wash it. Gotta love that black.

Thanks for that one . I needed to go to Walmart to get my eyes checked and was thinking of the exact same thing. Nightmares of some fat soccer mom banging her Explorer's door into my 8 while trying to shove her kids into the backseat flashed before my eyes.

I have come really close to doing this 2 or 3 times.
