It's a black '05 with 75K and nav. The seller a wholesaler says it's hard to get into 3rd gear sometimes. Looks and runs fine otherwise. He's asking upper $6K. What is a reasonable offer to make?

more info would be better.
How many miles? What shape is the car in? Have you had a compression test on the engine?

Like I said, 75,000 miles, looks and runs fine, no comp test but doesn't it have a 100K mile engine warranty?

I'll offer 5k, due to the transmission issue. Anyway, ask for a compression test. You don't want to buy with an engine and transmission problems...do you?

$5K won't work since a junk yard will pay more than that.

The engine has a 100K warranty no? and I already know the transmission has problems.

Depends on the dealer.
Some dealers want all the oil change and service history of the car since it was sold. Others cover it with a nod and a wink. So, you can't really bet that your engine will or will not be covered under warranty if you buy it.
