What my stepdad calls the "power-shift"

I'm wondering if any of you guys shift like this. To me it seems sort of abusive to the clutch, but I can be stupid about stuff like this. He's got a Silver 05 GT with the MT.

Well when he wants to accelerate as fast as he can he gets it up to 9k, hits the clutch and shifts quick without taking his foot off the floor. He manages not to hit the rev limiter and I must say that it does seem to increase acceleration, but I'm wondering at what cost...

That...that....hurts so bad.

Imagine if when you are digesting food, if the stomach never closes the hole to your intestines, in order to push things out faster. You're *** wouldn't feel so well, would it?

Sounds like more of a quick shift, power shift is when you shift using the vehicles power, no clutch usage necessary

I have done it various times and it did help my 1/4 mile times so it does help a bit, just dont do it a lot cause it hurts the clutch a bit.

Yah, if you go do it with perfect precision, it's not terrible, but it's not good either. Do it poorly like a hairy gorilla, and you will break stuff. A lot of people lift completely off the throttle between shifts, which is slow. Rev matching on upshifts helps to get clean, fast, efficient shifts. Maybe he's not lifting completely, but I hope he's not keeping it 100% floored.

If he is, what's the point in a car that does 0-60 in 6 seconds? Don't beat on a precision instrument...

That's called flat shifting. I messed up the tranny on my first car doing that. It's bad, m'kay?

The power is keeping load on the dogs when you whip them out and force them in the next gear, half dipping the clutch only relieves some of that force, you'll have a lovely worn gearbox in short order.

Far better shifting by preloading the gearstick and with a quick release of the throttle switching gears without the clutch, if you get that right the only thing you're straining is the synchros.

No Joke, if your racing, with sponsorship for financial backing, go for it, if you are just the average joe, you will be replacing clutches left and right, and the trans isn't the strongest. Good Luck

On Saturday morning me and him were riding into town to pick up a tiller (long story), and he turned off the highway to take this curvy lake-side backroad. Well we get going and he's "power shifting" trying to show me what I could do with mine and he's just about to finish out third gear when a DPS State Trooper comes rolling around the next corner. Both heads in that car locked on us as we flew by. We get pulled over of course and he gives him a ticket for 74 in a 60, and it would've been more had I not barked "COP!!"..

Ruined the rest of the road...

It was a small tiller that could fit into the back seat after an unsuccessful attempt to get it into the trunk.
