What a Guy at Sema told me this morning...PICS NOW UP

So I went to a booth, I'll post pics when I get home, where there was a Mazda 3 drag car on display. It was chameleon color. The guy there told me he specializes in Mazda. I asked him about the RX-8, and he said he liked it, but "all of his friends are pulling the 'high compression motor' out and putting in the 3 rotor 20B." I dunno, but I think he's full of it...I mean I've only seen 1 or 2 20B RX-8's.

I didn't have time to walk all over, but I will tomorrow through friday. I had class at 2:30 today, so eh oh well. Thing is, I didn't see many 8's, but one of my friends called and told me there are a few in the other halls.

This type of talk just worries me, because I'd like to see some of these companies do some development for the renesis.

I'll let you guys know if I see some more 8's this week. I only saw one outside this morning. I'll update you guys if I see more later on.

Thoughts?

I don't have one, but I think they should stop pulling out the Renesis and put some effort into making it better. Don't worry, they will...it's just too early for any real work on the Renesis.

I hope, once I get one, that after the warranty is over...I can find mod's that will take the 8 to about 340HP...that is a dream, but if I never do a thing to the 8...I'll be fine...cause it's VERY nice car as it is!

Let us know...give us pic's...

A show liek Sema ias going to have a lot of guys that want to put obscene amounts of HP in their cars, so far it just doesn't look like the Renesis is up to the task. The aftermarket and gains are going to end up being very similar to the S2000 IMO, they're pretty heavily tuned from the factory and if you want decent gains be prepared to spend a lot of money.

I have faith that the Renesis will dominate one day. People like Yaw Power will make it happen one day in the future...

Now get busy with that camera :p

A lot of people make the 20B sound like a common swap, peice of cake, especially people who know about 3 things about rotaries and how all their friends with RX-7s blew 3 motors and put a 20B in so they could make real power.

In actuality when you consider that only a small handful of 20B motors were even made, and probably less than 100 cars in the whole world have had a 20B swapped into them, doesnt seem so common a swap does it?

The 20B swap is just not feasible for your regular guy, so expect to see performance made with the renesis, not with a swap where more RX-8s are sold per month than there were motors ever produced.

I think the majoraty of swaps will be with a FD motor instead of a 20B.

I agree, but don't flame me. We need to be patient and wait for solid and complete FI kits to make a sound comparison, but I will be the first to say that if by the time my warranty runs out there are no respectable FI kits a 13rew will find a new home in my 8. I love rotaries, each one I have owned has been unique in its own right, however I want a rotary that has a turbo or supercharger attachted...If you haven't felt 20psi in a t-78 equipped 3rd gen you won't understand.Sorry for the long post

Sorry I tried to but they wouldn't let us touch the damn car. I couldn't get alot of interiors because the windows were up and it would create too much glare. If someone knows how to take pics of interiors behind windows with fluorescent lights reflecting, please enlighten me.

But yeah, I'll try to get better pics tomorrow through friday...
