What does detonation sound like in the Renesis?

All these threads about low-octane gas and possible detonation... Does it sound any different in a rotary vs. a piston engine?

I heard it with my windows rolled down, engine and wind noise... sounded like a bunch of half pound rocks rolling around in a tin can.

No joke - detonation in a rotary can be very damaging. If your think yours is detonating, run a higher octane fuel and a good total fuel sysyem cleaner like BG44K or Techron to quickly get some of the carbon out (carbon buildup is also a major cause of detonation)

It sounds like small hamsters with tap dancing shoes on.

Just curious. If it sounds like that, I haven't heard it.

That's a pretty accurate description of a turbo rotary that's overboosted.

In many cases detonation sounds like somone trying to squeeze apex seals parts out the exhaust ports!

Well, there's this odd ringing/chirping sound from the engine bay, pretty high frequency, at around 3000-3500rpm. It has kind of a metallic sound to it, and I've never had a satisfactory explanation for it.

I hadn't thought about it for a while since I've had the windows up with the AC on all summer and the windown needs to be open to hear it.... Heard it again yesterday and just thought I'd ask.
