thanks Elara. Boy do I feel foolish now............. I would have NEVER noticed it.

Does anyone know where to find a stainless thermal mug that actually FITS in the cup holder and doesn't tip side to side when I'm driving it like I stole it?

Another question.. does anyone else think that the tilt on the windshield causes bad sheeting of rain and leading to poor visibility? Does anyone use or recomend Rain-ex or similar products? I've never had this problem in other cars before - but when it's raining hard, I can't see well out of the windshield at all - no matter what speed the wipers are on.

More questions:
1) My driver's side rug has a hole for some kind of clip to hold it in place, but I can't find the clip. Am I missing something? How do you keep your rug in place?

2) A metal bracket witha peg on one side and a hole on the other came in my glovebox. Does anyone know what this is for?

3) Does anyone have trouble keeping the fuse cover in place or have any trouble with the shift **** rotor moving around?

1. see #2
2. this is the hook that should be installed to hold your floor mat in place. it is supposed to be installed by the dealer during pdi but for some reason often gets missed. bitch at them for it.
3. no on both. when bitching as mentioned in #2 get them to replace both.

oh and you know the mirror is double jointed? they seem to come in their lowest vertical position. it can be pushed up and toward the windsheild for better visability.

Can you use your wipers with Rain X, or do they wipe the chemical off?

Not really. The Rain X erodes away in time. The wipers reduce that amount of time for sure, but it's not like it's wiped-off immmediately, or even after 30 minutes.

OK, the gas cap hook is not designed for that purpose. I just fueled my car up and looked at it.

It's actually the "kicker" spring that pops the fuel door open.

That said, it does serve the dual purpose, but I had to point that out!

Thanks so much for pointing that out Elara. I've been driving this car for 2+ months wondering why Mazda would want us to let our caps hang against the paint *shakes heads* Thanks again!

While we're on the subject of messing-up the paint job, if you drip Rain X on your paint,

GET IT OFF IMMEDIATELY !!!

IT TOTALLY RUINS PAINT - ESPECIALLY NEW PAINT !!!

Read the teeny tiny directions on the back of the bottle if you doubt what I say.

Yes, I've learned that lesson the hard way.

Heh. Every time I see a thread about the gas cap I wonder if my RX-8 is somehow different from everybody else's.

This has never been a problem for me. To the right of the hole you put the gas nozzle in, there is a small "ledge" just big enough to lay the gas cap on.

I've had the car for over a year and have always just placed the gas cap on this ledge. It's never fallen off, and I've never had to let the gas cap hang against the paint.

Try it. Seriously.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I love this stuff and have used it for ages, mainly on older cars. I was in the habit of putting the open bottle on the hood while applying it....NO LONGER!

Regards, Gomez.

TOO SIMPLE

buy some small 'VELCRO' (adhesive) patches
attach ONE to gas cap and ONE to a sutable position (inside) gas door

'no more hanging chad', I mean 'cap'

It's kinda funny, my Protege 5 has a hook for the gas cap but the plastic lead isn't long enough to hook it, the RX8 has a nice long lead but nowhere to hook it. When I finally pick mine up on Wednesday I'll be looking to get it hooked, that phone clip looks pretty easy fix.

You beat me to it StewC625. Never the less it does work as dual purpose.

The cell phone clip is a great idea too. Although, some ppl will freak out over that extra gram of weight they are adding to their car.

I just wrap it around the gas nozzle/hose thing while it's in my tank being filled up. Works great and never touches anything.

Buy a bottle of Zaino Z-6 enhancer spray and use it instead of Rain-X after cleaning your glass. It works as well or better than Rain-X, it's easier to apply and it sure as hell won't hurt your paint, since it's designed for use on your paint!

Off thread but I know your a big advocate of zaino, and I am a zaino user, but better than rain-x who's sole purpose is glass (and plastics)? I'll do a test this weekend.

It's not like I've tried everything out there, or even much of anything out there! But I guess I do like the stuff.

Note I didn't say "better than", but only "as well or better". I haven't tested for longevity vs. Rain-X. That would be worth knowing. I Z-6 my car pretty much every weekend anyway, so swiping the towel across the glass takes virtually no time at all.

It would be interesting to Rain-X one side and Z-6 the other, just to compare. I nominate your RX-8 as the test vehicle, just in case it looks really weird or something! :D

Sorry to all for the OT. Just had to respond to that excellent Rain-X warning since there's a totally risk free solution.
