What do you do with...
The gas cap? There is no hook on the door and the cap dangles on the paint. I don't know what to do about it. I cant hold it up the entire time I am refuleing!
Where do you put your CDs? The visors are too short for my visor case and there is no good spot for my CD wallet within reach. Glovebox (mine is full of important stuff)? I keep mine in the storage space in the consol in the back seat. It's hard to reach though.
Where do you keep your garage door opener? The clip on mine doesn't like the plastic visors.
Just lookin' for some advice from the experts.
Lovin' the car, just need to work out the details.
I bought some cheap mechanic's gloves and put them with my oil quart and some stolen paper funnels, strapped to my tire repair kit. Seems to work well. Only need one glove to check oil though.

Gas Cap: Griot's Garage (www.griotsgarage.com) sells a little roll up rubber mat that fits over the filler neck and unrolls about 8" down the side of the car when you open the gas door. The cap dangles against that. Got one for my -8 last week.
CD - keep in the door pockets. My CD wallet fits perfectly there between the door handle and the door liner down in the pocket. Also, overflow in rear storage bin.
Garage Door opener: Well, I have the GT which has HomeLink (integrated to the mirror) so can't help you, but may want to try velcro under the dash (that's what I used to do ... before I discovered HomeLink - now I won't buy a car without it!)

3M makes these little hooks that can be modified to make them small enough to fit and hang the plastic lanyard from it.
Don't have a garage so no opener, but I have the homelink system...
As for the CD case, use Velcro to hold it to the side of the tunnel on the passenger side.
These are my fixes...

1. my gas cap just hangs there. havent gotten around to do anything about it yet.
2. my cds are in a round case that fits very nicely in the door pocket.
3. garage door opener is integrated into the mirror. if i didnt have that id put it in the sunglasses holder. i wear glasses and have the type that change tint level according to brightness hence no sunglasses. currently my tire guage lives in that spot.
4. my oil lives in a plastic ziploc bag, along with a paper towel, in the pass thru pocket. fits nicely there doesnt roll around and is easy for me to reach from inside or from the trunk side.
5. you didnt ask but my "nav" system (read maps) lives in the pocket in the back of the passenger seat.

i put my cd's in the changer. i dont carry any extra with me in the car.
you can easily fix that garage-door opener problem. the RX-8 comes with a button on the far left of the rear-view mirror. you can program it with your garage door opener so you can press the button to open it and leave that huge remote at the house.
good luck. if you need any help just pm me.

Yeah, just point your gas cap with the outer (clean) part touching the paint. It doesn't move after you let it go. There are some threads about how to fix it this way or that. For me though, it's not a concern. I always get all nervy when its time to remove the nozzle. They always want to drip coming out.

I apologize for the n00bness, but I have an idea for the gas cap. It seemd many companies have "slots" in the cap itself, like through the outer edges just missing the internal sealing unit thingy majoby, so that while at fill up you can "hang it" on the back side of the gas door using said slots. Woudl it be possible to do a DIY with a dremel and a ruler, measure across the cap missing the screw portion and creating slots large enough to clip it to the door?
Door opener in the sunglass area is a good idea too, I like.

There IS a little gas cap holder on the bottom right side- it's not on the gas door thing -it's just a little hook, but it does keep the cap from smacking on the car. Kinda turns it inward a bit. I'll even go take a picture for you guys.

I'll try the gas cap hook when I leave the office today. (Ya, I'm goofing off, but it's near the end of another arduous day of hard work and toggling over to this website.) As for the garage door opener, I just yanked the hook off and now store it in the sunglass holder, which I don't use since my sunglasses are prescription and I generally leave them on when I exit the car. I am intrigued about programming the mirror, though, as the other post suggested. I'll have to check it.

Well, if you don't pump your own gas, I can see why you'd miss it. I didn't figure it out until 2 months after I bought the car, and I DO pump my own gas.

That looks like it would be in the way of the pump handle.
BTW most gas stations have paper towels by the windshield squeegees...take two and put them under the nozzle before taking it out to prevent the drips on the paint...

I read about the gas cap hook thing on this site some time ago and use it always. Never gets in the way of the pump handle. I only have cd's that I burn so they stay in the player for about a week (or until I get tired of them) and then go into the second center compartment (slide back cupholder cover and lift up). Every couple of weeks while washing the car I listen through them real quick and throw most of them away. No storage problem for that. I put my garage door opener in the ashtray. I do not think I have ever heard that mentioned on here before. I have one of the real small ones from sears, about the size of the key fob, maybe a bit bigger. Fits perfect and since I dont use the ash tray I have no need for it. I just flip the lid open and hit the button, never have to take my hand off the shifter.

These have been great tips. I knew something would come up. I'm going to try the cap clip next time I fill up and the CDs in the door slots. Velcroing the opener (it's kind of big) under the dash is also a good idea (I don't have the homelink intentionally because the mirror body is bigger and I already have trouble seeing around the plain one).
More questions:
1) My driver's side rug has a hole for some kind of clip to hold it in place, but I can't find the clip. Am I missing something? How do you keep your rug in place?
2) A metal bracket witha peg on one side and a hole on the other came in my glovebox. Does anyone know what this is for?
3) Does anyone have trouble keeping the fuse cover in place or have any trouble with the shift **** rotor moving around?
One tip from me. I purchased a "trash shute" from Walmart that I used in previous autos. The strap used to secure it was not compatable with the RX 8 interior. It comes with velcro on the side, used that to secure it to the side of the consol on the passenger's side near the e-brake. Easy access and mostly out of the way. It's black and not obtrusive, and my car stays clean.

Re: 1) Yeah, there is a rug clip under the drivers seat. Mine did not come with one, so I asked the Dealer to order it and install. They said it was covered by the warranty, so I got a free rental out of it too.
Re: 2)…Don’t know what that’s for, but I also found a random part in the glove box, mine was a plastic seatbelt guide, looks like it might belongs to a 6 or a 3, can’t figure out where it would go on the 8.

As for storing CDs, I have a small CD album (20 CDs) that fits perfectly into the door pocket if you put 19 CDs in it - which is the way to go in order to have empty slot when swapping a CD.

Well, the metal thing with the peg on it sounds like your floormat holder for the driver's side. If you motor the seat (or slide it, depends on your "pack") back, it's right in front of the seat when the seat is fully back. I'm betting the metal thing you found in the glovebox is the holder. Have your dealer install it on your next service visit.

I did wondered what the metal bracket was for. I found the answer after a few weeks of getting my car. The installation is relatively easy. Like STEWC625 said, just slide the driver seat all the way back. Then with a short Phillips screwdriver, start to uncrew the plastic retainer section about half way. After that you will be able to pull the retainer completely. Place the bracket (you will see that the bracket contours the floor with the peg facing upward) and secure it to the floor by inserting the retainer. To lock the retainer, just push in the screw peg that you unscrew earlier. Place the floor mat making sure the peg got through the hole. And that’s it. The floor mat holder is works like a charm after 9 months… no more slipped mats.
