What to do if you didn't preorder through the web site?
I went to my local Mazda dealer and preordered over the weekend (Titanium), but I didn't go through the web site first. Since then I've been reading here about being informed of various things via email by Mazda - VIN, free goodies, etc. Is there a way to get on the notification list at this point? The dealer seemed pretty clueless when I initially went in, which is why I'm asking here first.

hello my home town of West Chester PA.! actually i graduated from Coatesville but grew up mainly in west chester. welcome to the board! how is the weather there?
Your best bet is to call or email customer service at mazda north america. calling will get you someone who might be able to answer your question right now but might have to call you back. if you email them you will get a canned email reply first but usually within two days they will email you a second time with the answer to your question.
What dealer are you going with?

Hey thanks! It's been cold the last week (cold for here, anyway), but it's supposed to warm up soon.
Thanks for the suggestions - I'll try one or the other.
My dealer is Brandywine Mazda on route 202, you know it? I had called them before I went in to check what size deposit they wanted and whether it would be refundable, and they said $500 and yes. When I get there, I start filling out paperwork and as an afterthought ask, and this will be refundable, right? So the guy I'm dealing with (an older guy, with decidedly old-school style says "no, of course not, why would we do that?". I get into a debate with him and finally start to walk out. At this point he calls over the manager, a much younger guy, who says, well, we can go 50/50 on the deposit. I say no thanks, start to walk out again, and then he says the whole thing can be refundable. The original salesguy is sputtering, "how can we do that?", and the other one says "if he ends up not wanting it, we can turn around and sell it to someone who didn't reserve it, for $2000 above MSRP instead of MSRP". Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, but hopefully come July I can just buy the car and never deal with them again.

i don't remember which one that is exactly. is that over in downingtown or the one on 30 in thorndale? remember that you will have to deal with them for sevice and warrenty work during the warrenty period. check if they are also aMazdaspeed dealer. their mechanics should be a little better than one that isn't.
hey if you're in downingtown go over to sams pizza on washington ave and get a cheesesteak. one of the best ones in the area. tell em charlie who lives in portland said hello.:D

If you're going south on 202 towards Delaware, a few miles before you cross route 1, that's where it is. I don't think the one in Thorndale exists anymore (Ed Price Mazda I think? That's where I bought my (still trusty) RX-7 in '91).
Yeah, I'll have to get service/warranty work done there, but I won't have to deal with the salesmen.
I don't know if they're a Mazdaspeed dealer - it doesn't mention it on their web site (http://www.brandywinesuzuki.com//en_US/Welcome_1.chtml)
Btw, I work in Downingtown, near the end of Boot road, right next to the post office.

ok i know the one you're talking abot. i think they have a pretty good rep from what i remember. and now that i think about it i remember seeing that the one in thorndale was gone.
so if you want to check out sams godown to 322 and make a right to go into town. washington ave is the street on the right just before 30 (lancaster ave) about a block up on the left is sams. there used to be a mechanic just before sams on the right who did alot of the rebuild work on my '65 stang about 10 years ago. he didn't do any rotary work that i remember but a great mechanic and an honest one too. :D

I called the Brandywine dealer and they are a bunch of idiots!
They are the closest dealer to me but I will not deal with them.
I am ordering mine a some other dealer.

its a shame to hear that the dealers seem to be the same all over. completely uninformed and uncaring and unexcited about this car. its too bad that general sales (the cadillac folks) in west chester doesn't deal in mazdas as i'm related to to them and could get you all hooked up with good people. is there another dealer in chester county or deleware county that you could go to?
edit: i went to mazda usa and tried different zips for west chester , downingtown, exton and coatesville. it kept pointing me to dealers in newark, deleware and philly. didn't even find brandywine using the dealer locator(?). i would try phoenixville and pottstown but can't remember the zips right now.

Update: I wrote rx8orders@mazdausa.com last night and arrived at work this morning to find a very courteous reply. They said to give my email info the my dealer, which I did. When I called I asked to speak to the manager, not the more clueless guy. Hi name is DJ and at least seems to have a better idea what's going on - he was surprised that the first guy didn't get my email address when I was in initially. He said they need that to complete the order. So now I should be all set up.
ACRX8 - if you find another dealer too inconvenient and decide to give Brandywine another try, speak with DJ. Not that I'm recommending them or anything - if there was a different dealer nearby, I'd probably be using them - just that he seems more clueful and more interested in the customer than the other guy I dealt with.
