You sure? I thought all rotor faces should be over 100 psi.
|
They should be. But so long as it isn't eating coolant, starts, and doesn't have any CEL's, it's good to go.
Two exceptionw: If you are under warranty, get it replaced. If you are flush with money, get it rebuilt. Otherwise, drive it. Drive it harder. Here's video proof from late last Summer. 1:28 is pretty quick for a sub-200 WHP, 2800+ lb street car. Still running it this way this Summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvqFPkPztWs . |

Build updates from the past few weeks
11 Attachment(s)
Finally finished installing the entire drivetrain and both subframes on my 2004 GT from a 2009 R3, just have a few things to button and finish up, but it's just about ready to drop it back on the ground finally and all that will be left will be interior wiring:)
*If you'd like to follow my build, here's is the tread for it: https://www.rx8club.com/rotary-swaps...-my-s1-261187/ #R3S1 #MazdaspeedR3 Attachment 214113 Attachment 214114 Attachment 214115 Attachment 214116 Attachment 214117 Attachment 214118 Attachment 214119 Attachment 214120 Attachment 214121 Attachment 214122 Attachment 214123 |

I'll see what's happening around the house.

BHR midpipe
Well today i tried to install a catless BHR midpipe. As in tired I got it installed but I had a brain fart and tightened the the front end of the midpipe before i had the back connected. Once i had it all together the back end was too far to the left side and didn't line up enough for the back to make a proper seal. I like the sound of it with a slight leak at the back end, but it sounded like someone pounding nails in a metal roof like a roofer was on crack pounding nails :yelrotflm. After seeing what i did wrong (not sure why but it has been a bit too hot out to be under a car). I re-positioned the donut and tightened everything properly and all I have to say is I love the quietness of a catless midpipe with the stock exhaust. (Quite till you want it to be known)
Drove her all day long after the install and yet to have a CEL but im sure it will happen sooner or later. |
Cleaned my oil coolers 😜

It's time to hand the keys to my son.
The car was originally meant for him to drive. He picked it out and I got to drive it for a while. He did his time driving our Ford Focus and has proved himself responsible for a year. Perfect grades and a job to pay for it. No tickets. About six months ago I sent him and his mother to a training program at VIR and it was money well spent. I wish I drove this well at 17. His first mod was a Borla catback. First auto x day Photo. |
This is a late post but I have did a oil change, tranny oil change, rear differential oil , plastic undertray and passenger front fender. Also remind you im doing all of this in nyc 97 degree heat with a sunburn! And it hurt as hell going under the car. But its shifting and riding alot smoother..
|
97° here as well, 106° heat index.
Took my BHR midpipe off and put my cheap Walker cat on for inspection. Changed oil, and rotated tires. Flipped 57k a couple of days ago. |

pretty hot day today (around 95°) but decided the car needed a little attention

Went to get my last unopened bottle of Idemitsu premix from the garage. It was lying on it side in the box it shipped in. Somehow, when I picked it up, the plastic had holes in it. Before I realized what was happening, 20 oz of precious premix was all over my hands and the floor. #rotaryproblems

Got some "used" 245/45/18 (I know, usually we go to 245/40/18 but the guy didn't have 4 of those) tires put on. $180 for three Continentals and a Michelin, balanced and mounted. The tread looks almost brand new but I just didn't want to spend $600 on new tires when I'm not even going to be pushing the car until my break-in period is over. 800 or so miles left...
|
Jastreb: sucks man.
#becauseRotary #1stworldproblems. :lol2: sticky: how do you like the tires? not too much rubber? |
Washed her after my 655 mi trip to PA

After three years of searching for a clean Whitewater Pearl, I got lucky and found a meticulously maintained 2006 Shinka Manual. So I bought it.

I spent a couple of day on the new Dominion Raceway over the weekend. Fun track. In preparation for that:
Replaced the right-side axle seal in the differential. Don't know why it was leaking, butchered the install of the new one. But it's not leaking so yay. While I was under there I installed a leftover airbag heat shield to reduce the radiant heating on the diff a little. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...b01182a988.jpg |
My RX soon to be released from shop.
Painted the rear area in rear bumper "red". (Same as my car). Looks better than black. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...de0b865a8.jpeg |
|
Considered ditching it for an MX-5, money is getting a bit tight.

It's used to mark bolts/nuts that have been torqued down. If they start to break loose the striping will break giving you a visual indication.
Normally you only put a thin stripe. We called it torque stripe or nut goo. Travis |
Today she is getting her first real mechanical upgrades! Koyo HH-series radiator (48mm core), Samco coolant line kit (6 piece) and RB cat-back. Shiny :yumyum:

Don't forget the restrictors in the coolant lines.
I have a Samco kit, i didn't like the way they fit. So I got RB and some stock. Travis |

My son and I painted the calipers today. Took us about 3 1/2 hours and done. It was either going to be black or red. |
Very nice job. I did mine in green and probably have to redo them by now .

Did the first oil change under my ownership, replaced the cabin air filters and installed a cable for my iPod to the GTA Pure Bluetooth kit. Checked in and out underneath. Very solid example that has no hidden secrets. It's exactly as great as I thought it would be.
Also, confirmed a couple of days ago that the whole family fits. 2 year old, 6 month old with plenty of room for the two parents in the front. Attachment 218045 |
Well that's a definite yes on if a car seat will fit.
Travis |
That gta bluetooth kit is a really good buy. I've had mine for about a year with no issues.
|
That's one beautiful pic. Lovely color combo too. White with beige interior. Awesome.
|
3rd startup after rebuild. ECU still learning to idle!

Went to my second SCCA Track Night at NJMP yesterday. Still learning how much more grip the 245 G-Force Rival S has. Had a great time. Those track nights are really laid back, but quality and organization is definitely still there. SCCA seems to be doing a great job with the program.

Took my front suspension apart. Lost the top nut to the strut on the track.
Had to use the spring compress on the car to get it out. That wasn't dangerous at all. :sweatdrop It's f*&ked. Adjuster bashed-in, shock oil all over. People, nut-n-bolt everything once a year if you track it. I did the entire suspension this spring except these two damn nuts which I forgot. Murphy then stuck his boot up my ass last weekend and I did not enjoy it. Ah well, both sides were leaking anyway... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...2dd13692b9.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...151fb6f2ee.jpg |

Finally back on the ground and the physical part of my S2 drivetrain swap is now done, now all that's left is rewiring the interior and it will be a complete S2:)

But yeah, Mazda are going through some issues with front and rear shocks on some of the latest Skyactiv models, and they ALWAYS demand in TSB's the top shock piston nut be replaced with a new one (not re-usable at any age/mileage), I think this applies with the RX-8 and many other older models too....just don't reuse them, ever. |
Got my fresh rebuild to finally idle for over 2 hours. It's almost drivable!

Night Autocross!
|
Checked electrical connections and drove it around the block to test shift points. Tomorrow I shall expand the radius and hopefully fix the EPS issue...
|
Just took mine into the mechanic P0506 code popped up so i sent the beauty in:hahano:
|
I calculated that within the past 6 months I've spent over $8k on my 8 just to get it running alright. #WorthIt?
|
|
Today, after 6 months of trying to get my 8 running, it's finally running at 100%. For the past month it's been having problems and I couldn't drive it with confidence. But NOW, it turns out my AutoZone MAF sensor was shit so i replaced it with a $300 one straight from the stealership (where i also met one of the most beautiful women of my life (stay away :Kill1: )) and guess what?!? My 8 is SO much better now, I can not believe it! It's crazy, I love it.
|
Swapped out an old starter for a new one in my recently acquired RX8. Never seen the smaller version of the starters until today....
