What did you do with your RX8 today?
Installed new Die-hard Gold battery, vacuumed up the crap and dirt that had accumulated in the bottom of the battery box. The Die-hard is actually a tad smaller in length than OEM, so hopefully it will have improved cooling with the extra clearance in the battery enclosure.

I would agree with that statement , I am talking to a Mazda rx8 mechanic and we will come up with the most effective place in the stream to place the gauges. Until Mazda comes up with a better more reliable check point device to monitor the oil temp( we all should agree that the oil temperature check point is nonexistent in that we rely upon the coolant sensor and the idiot light on the dash to monitor the engine condition in terms of heat) these 2 points are poorly engineered or their supplier is not reliable in the quality of their parts, in either case I bought a oil temp gauge and I am buying an additional digital read out gauge for my engine coolant. This will enable me to monitor both oil and coolant temperature giving me a leg up on those who rely on the poor monitoring of oil and coolant engineered into the car.
By installing these two gauges I will be safer and have more control of when to shut off the engine in the event of a failure causing over heating wouldn't you agree that a digital read out oil temperature gauge and a digital readout gauge for the coolant temperature is a good thing to do. Once installed the factory coolant and the factory dash gauge are not relevant to me any more.

And why do you think the factory coolant temperature sensor does not do a good job of measuring coolant temps? Having an oil temp gauge is only important if you track your car and really need to keep an eye on temps, if you are NA and running stock oil coolers, you oil temps will be with 10 degrees or so of coolant temps and coolant temps will rise first of there is a problem. Having a coolant temp gauge or an OBD-II monitoring solution with an alarm is the best bet.

In the summer when temperatures are in the 90"s and you are in traffic you are in my opinion in need for a look see of what the temperatures of both fluids are because firstly any one knows that hot summer days in standing traffic is very hard on your cooling system and why wouldn't you in that circumstance want to know the exact temperature of the fluids I am an enthusiasts , it's my car and who would argue against the two digital gauges?, it just makes sense to me. This is what I am doing and nothing but good can come from it for me. I will always know what temperature my oil and coolant are in a digital fashion. How bad can that be?.
Installed my Cobb Access and did the base diagnostic according to MM. That thing is freaking awesome! Found some useful stuff.

You can have as many gauges as you want, that is your choice. But, if you are monitoring coolant temps you don't need to monitor oil temps. If you have high coolant temps you will have high oil temps and vice vera. The factory coolant temperature sensor is in a good location and is a quality sensor, so monitoring it's readings with an OBD-II solution is much better than a cheapy gauge with a sensor in the heater circuit. I have had numerous gauge setups and it is one of those things where you do get what you pay for.
