Changed oil yesterday, and it went much worse than I anticipated.

Firstly, I tried to install the Fumoto valve and stripped the little hole... So I just reused the factory drain bolt instead and see what I can do with the valve.

And then I made a bit of a mess taking off the oil filter. Uhh...

As time went on, it got dark and really freakin' cold. I think I got a slight cold from all this.

Note to myself: in winter, either do it in the garage or pay someone else to do it.

I did this ugly abomination of a welding job to hold my new LiFePO4 battery in my trunk...

Now I just need to figure out a system to keep it warm so I can charge it when the temperature is below 32F.

Why not substitute an ordinary AGM battery in the Winter when battery weight doesn't matter?
Keep the expensive lithium battery indoors until Spring.

Laziness, mostly.

I really should if for no other reason than as an excuse to get more welding practice in while making another hold-down.

Drove mine to work this morning, since my daily (outback xt) decided it hates me. The rx-8 and I, so far, seem to have a much better relationship.

I’m sorry man but that is butt *** ugly! Plus, there is a lot of unfused/unprotected power wire that appears to be very close to the edge of that sharp square stock. Also, are there only 2 bolts holding that down? Doesn’t look very sturdy. Not trying to be a dick but I see a few safety issues with your setup.

People try not to be a lot of things and they so rarely succeed...

Yah, it's pretty rough (as I already said but maybe you can't read... oops, I failed at not being a dick, too). This was a rough draft and it's made of scraps so it was nearly free. The next version will get more attention from the grinder and better cable management.

The battery weights 2.6lbs so it doesn't need more than that holding it down. The battery is also effectively fused internally (it has protection circuitry to protect against overcharge, undercharge and overcurrent). Even if it were to come free and short out on bare metal in the trunk during an accident, the internal protection circuit will cut the power.

Got bored and decided to gut the cat on my 04. Very pleasing, only took about an hour start to finish.

Figured it was time to move on from tape. Also put in an ultragauge to keep an eye on coolant temp. Out of the box it has an rpm alarm at 4k, lol.

2004 RX8 recalls

Well took my RX8 to dealer to check on recalls.
Found out there are 3... Lower a arms Fuel tank leak fix and low compression engine.
To my surprise I have been having problems with low compression and not starting when warmed up till it gets A quarter down on temp gauge.
They are giving me rental car and another engine! And fixing the other recalls
Shocker but great!!

i have no idea and I'm not going to jinx it..I just know what they told me it has a recall on low compression and they said if it test to be low compression it will be replaced..I didn't argue with them and I don't plan too.

Threw in the OE plastic cargo mat this morning that came in the mail yesterday. Looks like it will hold up for numerous years of stuffing floor jacks, tools, and other misc track stuff in the trunk.

1st track day in the 8 (saturday). I found it deceivingly fast. In just 2 sessions (1st session temps were below freezing) I beat my best time at AMP in my nb which I had for 4 years and was well prepped for track. Fuel starvation was frustrating though, as the throttle started cutting off when the gauge showed over half a tank left.

Hmmm... Not sure about fuel starvation on that much gas. Mine doesn't do it, until I go below 1/3 tank, and my home track has some pretty long sweepers.

It happened every lap in that session (until I gave up) in the same spot. Throttle would cut out for about 4 seconds and then the car was fine until I came back to the same turn. I went out and put 9.3 gallons in, came back and the car was fine for the remaining sessions. Same turn that starved my nb, though that car had a nearly empty tank.

Is it a left-hand turn?

The way our fuel system works, fuel is pumped from the passenger side to driver side saddle when pumped fuel supply is greater than the engine demand. If your pump is weak, it could result in insufficient transfer between the two sides.

Yup, it was a left. It'd be a shame if the fuel pump was already getting weak. The car only has 30k miles on it. But refueling every 3 sessions will get annoying fast, especially once I start up again with double duty (12-14 sessions/event).
